Expressions of Interest for an Assistant TIDYHQ Systems Administrator

We are still looking for one of our members to assist in supporting our Membership management System TIDYHQ.

In terms of background, the Shed has used the TIDYHQ System to manage key aspects of the membership management, along with our Website, Events, Communications, Storage and Meetings, since early 2020.

I would like to hear from any of our Members who have had a background in Software Applications, who would be interested in supporting me in this role.

There is no coding involved, just configuring the existing functionality of the System, to achieve the best outcomes for the Shed. The role would also be involved in providing training to Team Leaders, Supervisors etc, as required.

Your initial responsibility will be to manage the Shed's Website and ensure its currency at all times. Over a 3 month period, with training and support from myself, you should be able to provide full Shed support for TIDYHQ. During 2024 we will work towards one of us performing the full role for 6 months at a time.

I will be travelling overseas several times during 2024, so will need to have someone who can take on this role during these periods.

Please let me know if you interested or have any questions, by emailing me (Steve Gerreyn) at this email address systemsadmin.msclaremont@mail.tidyhq.com

Shedder's Health

Do NOT "Soldier On"

Just another reminder Guys to please keep your germs at home. If you have a cough, cold, a bit of a temperature or you feel a "bit off", please do not come into the shed.

Royal Show 2024 - can you help with the planning?

We are still seeking members who would like to share the joy of organising another successful Royal Show for the shed in 2024.

You will not be thrown in at the deep end. The 2023 Royal Show Leadership Group (RSLG) have documented the steps they took to deliver the Shed's display for the 2023 Royal Show. Also, members of the 2023 RSLG will be available to mentor and assist you.

If you would like to know more about this opportunity, please contact Bill MacLeod on 0437 443 818

Train the Trainer Course -- Blue Dot Training

We have a need for more Blue Dot trainers in 2024. No special skills are required. If you have your blue dot you already have the skills to be a trainer; and training others will certainly help you improve your own skills.

Later this month/ early next month we will be running a 'Train the Trainer' session for the Blue Dot course. The course will provide you with everything you need to know to run a training session. The training sessions can be programmed to suit your availability.

Our objective is to train enough trainers so that it isn't a burden for anyone and you will each only have to do a few courses per year.

If you'd like to join the training team please let me know by replying to this email.

Donations for SOS Children's Orphanage in Botswana

As the Community Liaison Co-ordinator for the Shed, I have also been posting this request for Donations to a number of Community Facebook sites that I am a member of, with great success. Hopefully we will be able to help Wolf fill up his container, within the next month, so if you have any children's items please bring them to the Shed and store them in the designated shelves at the front. Any questions please contact me (Steve Gerreyn at this email address community-liaison.msclaremont@mail.tidyhq.com)

Wolf Martinick is the Executive Chairman of Botala Energy and one of our long standing Shed members .

Wolf and his company have been working with the SOS Children's Orphanage for the last year donating clothes, toys and sporting equipment for the children there. The Village has been operating in Botswana for the past 30 years and has over 420 children and 48 families that it supports.

They are dedicated to helping the local community in Botswana and feel that supporting the Orphanage helps to support these children and prepare them for a brighter future. The Orphanage works with children into adulthood providing them education and support; however, they have a limited budget for each child under their care which is why our donations are so important to them. Their continued support allows them to dedicate more resources towards education and providing for the children without having to worry about clothing and toys, which is just one small way they can help.

The values and goals of the SOS Children's Village of; breaking the cycle; enabling self-reliance through education and empowerment; securing basic needs; and building a foundation for a happy life align with those of Botala Energy. By empowering the future generations to take charge of their lives through these donations they can empower progress within Botswana.

Our Shed has some Shelving Units at the front, where we store our projects. There are also some dedicated Shelves set aside where we are collecting children's clothes and toys for this great cause. So if any of you or your family can help by donating any of these items, please drop them off at the Shed in the Shelving space.

The Shed is really behind this initiative so we will be continuing to repeat this article in our Weekly Newsletters over the next few weeks.

Group Updates

Woodworking Group Update

The Recent Woodworking Leadership Meeting identified a number of new initiatives that will focus on improving the engagement of Woodworking Group Members in the short term.

These will include:

· Focus on new ideas to help facilitate members to complete their blue dot projects in a timely fashion

· Providing more assistance, encouragement and support for Woodworkers group members to undertake woodwork projects

· Arranging for competent group members to ‘re-train blue dot members in waiting’ and offer mini-Master Class sessions to assist blue dot members to complete ‘well liked’ wood projects. These will be scheduled frequently on “rolling roster” when suitable blue dot ‘mentors’, including some existing supervisors, will be available to assist members with their own, or SCMS suggested projects. This initiative will be regularly posted each month in the SCMS weekly newsletter and on the Shed Website
