Bee Keeping

The Mens Shed “Bee Keeping Group” welcomes interested parties to come and learn about this fabulous hobby or to seek help or advice on things related to honey bees. We can do Beekeeping 101 basic courses for those who require foundation knowledge and our Apiary provides bee handling experience as skills progress.

Our Apiary is fully licensed with all relevant Government Departments.

It is interesting to note that in the five year period 2015 to 2020 the number of registered beekeepers in Western Australia has grown by nearly 500 new Beekeepers per year to over 3500 Beekeepers, with most being in the urban areas.

Our Apiary is fenced and gated to enclose our Bee Hives. Our group is fully equipped for the hobby and we aim to have about 6 Hives in our Apiary.

Our objectives for 2023-24  will be to develop skills in our hobby, such as raising new Queen Bees by grafting young larva, raising new colonies by division and of course producing some beautiful honey, whilst having fun.

The Shed Committee has allocated a dedicated area to house our equipment and this will enable us to have a permanent setup in which we can maintain and store hive parts and also conduct our honey extraction and bottling.

All Shed members who have an interest in Bee Keeping are encouraged to participate and graduate to become a Bee Keeper of their own hives. If you would like to know more about our Bee Keeping Group please email our Bee Keeping Group Leader, by going to our CONTACT US Page, whether it is to join the Group or obtain any other information you are seeking.  Hope to see you soon.
