What we started with and created this - a beautiful and welcoming space
The Garden Group was one of the inaugural groups formed about six months before the Shed was opened in February 2020. This Group was responsible for transforming a very run down, weed infested, bitumen and concrete paved wasteland adjoining area next to the Shed into a lovely brick paved garden and nursery.
Over the years the Garden Group continued to enhance the existing Garden and also landscaping the grounds around the Shed and in the Apiary. The Garden areas provide great communal areas to have a chat and a coffee.
The key activities of the Group are centred around the enjoyment of creating and maintaining healthy and appropriate plants which enhance the areas around the Shed.
We also propagate and grow both native and exotic plants (including a range of herbs) for sale to the general public, grow spices and herbs for our kitchen as well as growing and caring for plants that the Royal Agricultural Society use at major functions like the Royal Perth Show.
Over the past several Royal Show weeks we have had quite successful sales of plants from the public. A great attraction in the garden during these days has been the display of life-like model dinosaurs, one emitting roars to the passing crowds, exciting, and at the same time surprising to the young!
Our pizza oven has proven to be a great asset with our expert pizza chef Simon and his team producing tasty and varied, beautifully cooked meals at our regular, popular summer sundowner evenings.
Members continue to enjoy the ambience of the garden for morning teas in summer and winter, weather permitting. The addition of a misting system over the seating area has allowed us to be able to utilize the area more often on the warmer days.
Our small, but enthusiastic team is committed to maintaining the garden at it’s best possible standard to ensure we have a good stock of plants for sale both to the public and our own members and that the garden provides a pleasant environment for member interaction and social occasions.
Contact our Garden Team Lead on this email garden.lead@msclaremont.tidymail.co if you would like to join the Garden Team, purchase some pot plants or Vegetables from our Garden, donate some pot plants or cuttings or anything else for the garden that we could use.
