Dr Chris Allen is a Member of the Shed and is a highly qualified and well known Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon.
He graduated from Monash Melbourne University with honours in surgery in 1975, and obtained his Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1987.
Since then he has been practising in all aspects of Plastic Surgery, before retiring from Surgery in 2020.
He is past Vice President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and was Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at St John of God Hospital Hospital in Subiaco for 14 years. He was also an Emeritus Consultant at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where he worked for 17 years.
He teaches medical students at UWA and Notre Dame Universities, and has been part of a number of voluntary overseas Plastic Surgery missions to underdeveloped countries. Chris has excised over 12,000 skin cancers during his work as a Plastic Surgeon.
Chris currently he works as a Medico-legal Consultant in Plastic Surgery.
In his Presentation, Chris will show us some of the benign non-cancerous skin lesions and what they look like. He will also discuss the malignant skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma, all of which are common in the age group of the Men’s Shed; and show us how they are treated.
