Wellbeing - Swan River Heritage Project

Wed, 10 Jun 2026
04:00 PM - 06:00 PM

This week our very own member, Ian Warne, who is the Project Leader for the Maritime Archaelogical Association of WA will give us a talk on the Swaqn River Heritage Project. In Ian's own words.....

A TALK ON EARLY SWAN RIVER FERRIES

A talk by Ian Warne about some early Swan River history and particularly about the early Paddle Steamer Ferries.

Ian Warne is a Life Member and a Past President of MAAWA (the Maritime Archaeological Association of WA). Which is the amateur body of the WA Maritime Museum.

MAAWA has just launched a new web database relating to all things built on and around the Swan River including Jetties, Bridges, Boatsheds, even some 30 shipwrecks known to be in the river.

Old photographs from the public have contributed to our database and Ian would be keen to see any old photos you may have relating to early days on the Swan River.

If you have any old photos or historical information about early days on the Swan River, contributing them to this project could really help bring those memories to life for future generations. It’s fantastic that Ian is so passionate about "bringing history out of the boxes"—making sure these stories are accessible to everyone is key to preserving our shared history.
