Laser Cutter Training - June/July 2025
Laser Cutter - Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
09:00 AM – 10:30 AM
The next Training Course for the Laser Cutter is coming up. The first training session will be held on Wednesday 25th June 2025 at 9am. The training will continue each week on Wedensday mornings, until all attendees are proficient enough in using the laser cutter safely and can produce some simple projects in Lightburn. In the past, members required 5-7 sessions, but it really depends on your computer literacy and willingness to learn. I would like to keep the sessions fairly fluid, where we work together on a few simple projects. Obviously I will explain the general setup of the Laser Cutter, including the all important safety procedures. We also will go through all necessary steps to run Lightburn, the software the shed uses for the laser. Once the training course is booked, I will send out some information to all attending members, including access to a members version of Lightburn (reduced cost). This is a free training course but it is a ticketed event (only 6 spots available), so get your ticket now. Cheers Otti

The 'Book of the month' for June is 'Againt All Odds' by Craig Challen and Richard Harris, nominated by Chris Oakeley. This will be our first non fiction title, which will raise some issues for Chris when he prepares the discussion template, since he will be breaking new ground. Some of the book club members attended a talk given by the authors, but the book will be judged on its merits, not the celebrity status of its authors.

09:00 AM – 02:00 PM
Hello Cooking Class Sheddies I hope you will join me for the next cooking class on Tuesday 24 June at 9am. We will eat what we cook and lunch will be at about 12.30pm. This month we will make the well known Anglo-Indian brunch dish Kedgeree (a flavourful mix of steamed rice, smoked fish, curry and corriander).  This will be followed by rhubarb cake with a warm home made caramel sauce (just the thing for a cool winter's day).  A fixed cost of $20 per person will apply to each class to cover ingredients. Beer and wine will be available for purchase on the day. Please purchase your ticket in advance. As always, I look forward to seeing you on the day. All the best Michael Henderson

Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
23-06-2025 09:00 AM – 28-06-2025 03:00 PM
To maintain your Blue Dot Woodworking Accreditation you will need to, you will need to undertake a Verification of Competency (VOC) Assessment as follows. Woodworking members aged under 75 years will be assessed every 24 months Woodworking members aged 75 to 84 years will be assessed every 18 months Woodworking members older than 85 years  will be assessed every 12 months You will be assigned a simple task which shouldn’t take more than about 30 minutes. This is not a test of your craftsmanship; it is simply a demonstration that you can competently use the machinery unsupervised without endangering yourself or others.  You can book your VOC Assessment by clicking on your preferred VOC Assessment date below. The Rostered Supervisor for the day will oversee your assessment and he will either deem you "competent" or refer you to a Trainer for further assessment or training. If you choose not to do the VOC Assessment,  you will no longer be able to use the Machine Room equipment unsupervised.

Introduction to CNC Routing
09:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Do you want to learn how to design cnc projects and cut them on the cnc router? John Hassell will be running a two part introductory course for those interested in CNC routing. This course will give you some insight into the potential of cnc routing in woodworking projects. The course will be run over two consecutive Saturday morning sessions staring at 9:00 am in the Shed Meeting Room. The first Saturday session on June 21st  will be an introduction to VCarve Pro, the CAD software used to design cnc projects. The second Saturday session on June 28th will be practical session on the cnc  router. In the first session we will work through a simple design in VCarve Pro step by step, and in the second session we will look at how to set up and machine a project on the cnc machine. To participate in this course you will need:- 1. Reasonable computer literacy. 2. A Windows laptop computer and mouse. Sorry, VCarve Pro will not run on an Apple computer. 3. A functioning copy of VCarve Pro Trial Edition installed on your laptop. This can be downloaded at:- https://www.vectric.com/products/vcarve/ You want VCarve Pro, not Desktop. Download as a guest. 4. When you install the software it will ask you what cnc machine you are using. The Shed has a Pro V6 AR6 manufactured by Axiom. The course is free, but you will need to take a ticket as we limit numbers to the first 10 persons. See you there. John Hassell CNC Router and Laser Group
