Dr Aparna Hegde is a GP and Functional Medicine specialist based right here in Claremont. Functional medicine is more that just treating you when you get sick.  Functional medicine aims to optimise your health so you not only "don't get sick" but so you are as healthy as possible and you stay that way for as long as possible. Using both conventional health tests and some less common assessments, Aparna helps clients get and stay healthy. In this session, Aparna will explain - What functional medicine is and how she uses it to optimise her patient's health. What are the different services she offers. How functional medicine is changing the way we think about doctors and health.  

Dear Sheddies PLEASE REGISTER NOW. Members who have contributed towards our effort for the 2025 Royal Show are invited to our POST SHOW SUNDOWNER on Sunday 5th October. Whether you made “stuff” to be sold during the show, helped us get the shed ready for the show going public, lent us your cherished project or helped to man the shed during the show, or all four, you are welcome to attend this (almost) FREE event. PLEASE “PURCHASE” YOUR FREE TICKET(S) for catering requirements. This event will be on the Sunday immediately after the show and our display will still be fully set up, so bring your spouse along to see the shed in “Show mode”.  This will be a more relaxed viewing for anybody who came in for a look during the show. Our Sundowner will start at 5:00 pm with a welcome drink followed by platters of finger food.  Subsequent drinks will be available at the bar at our normal prices. PLEASE NOTE: The shed will be closed on Sunday 5th October and will not open until 5pm for this event. If you arrive by car, please park across the road in the Ashton triangle and WALK in through Gate 10. All members are welcome to join our Art Group and explore their own artistic talents, try a new medium, have a go or just watch, chat and learn a little as other members experiment and create. No previous experience is necessary. We are a very informal group with a range of talents and abilities but just having a go - absolute beginners to "old" masters!

Please join the book club conversation and share your thoughts this coming Tuesday 16th September from 4pm, when Peter Trinder will be leading our discussion.  I would also be interested in any thoughts people may have about dust jacket comments, which have become pervasive in the publishing industry since the 1920's. Apparently most dust jackets were plain before then. Golf Simulator opportunity Attention all Shed golfers and would-be golfers.  Peter Telford, a Shed member and all-around great SCMS supporter, has kindly offered to host another afternoon event for Shed members at his golf simulator in the CWA Pavillion, which is inside the Showgrounds just down the road from the Shed along the railroad tracks. When – Friday 12 September 1.00 – 3.00 pm Where – CWA Pavillion (Market Supplies written on the building). Come up the stairs on the east end of the building. Cost: Free Spectators welcome!  Even if you don’t want to play but are just curious about how a golf simulator works (or want to come along and heckle the golfers!), you are welcome to come and watch.

We are very pleased to announce that our guest speaker for this session is David Archibald, on the topic of Climate and Energy David' has extrensively researched this topic and we are delighted to have him come and present his talk on this extremely topical subject which should be of interest to many Sheddies and friends. David's synopsis of the talk follows; Australia has chosen the wrong path in going to Net Zero. The price of power has doubled so far and we are on track for far higher, more economy-killing prices yet. To add insult to injury, we are ruining the country on a false premise which is that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is a bad thing. On the contrary, the current level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of 421 ppm is still dangerously low and further increases in the atmospheric concentration are a wholly good thing.   The closest historic analogy to what we are doing to ourselves is the cattle-killing frenzy of the Xhosa tribe of South Africa in 1858. Some 75% of the Xhosa tribe died that year, we could have a similar result unless we overcome this spasm of paganism and return to sanity.   Photovoltaics and windmills are neither renewable or sustainable. They are in fact merely an artefact of cheap Chinese coal-fired power. Coal is too valuable to waste on power generation. We need to conserve it to convert to precious petrol and diesel. What to do instead? The answer is nuclear, but the right sort of nuclear. We will save time and money by going straight to plutonium breeder reactors. The generations of Australians to follow will thank us for coming to our senses and doing the only thing that can work. This should prove to be a facinating and pertinent talk so please register with a free ticket and come along and be informed. Don't forget to stay a while after the talk to share in some Shed fellowship with drinks and nibbles available and to participate in the 2025 inititive for a Door Prize for some lucky participant which will be drawn at approximately 5:45pm

Our new 'Artisan Bread Baking Group' will be preparing some delicious sourdough breads this afternoon, ready for baking on Thursday morning. This time, Anthony Armson will be teaching us how to bake the best 'Sourdough Baguettes in the West'! You will be able to smell and sample the 'spoils' of this effort if you visit the SCMS Kitchen on Thursday at lunchtime.
