September Wine Appreciation Event - Leftovers
04:30 PM – 06:30 PM
“Leftovers” is the theme for the next wine presentation to be held on Tuesday 2 September at 4.30pm.   This excitingly different and strikingly unusual theme will be presented by Tim Graham Taylor. Tim and his wife over many years have presented wines at the grandly named West Australian Wine Academy, which is associated with La Vigna  Wine Store in Menora.   Tim will present an eclectic mix of wines that are leftovers from those tastings. The final three wines in his presentation will be from the same grape with one wine aged in US oak, one in French oak and the third not aged in oak.    Just to be clear they are all unopened full bottles.    As usual there will be 20 places at $25, so get in early to reserve your spot. One Ticket only per Member.

August Book Club discussion
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
Hello again Book club colleagues.  This is your event invitation to our discussion of ‘The Island of Sea Women’ commencing at 4 p.m. next Tuesday afternoon, August 26th. Some of you may have noticed that Jeju island has been in the news recently because of a problematic behaviour by tourists - (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c939j4n2274o) At present we have not decided on a book of the month for November. If anyone has a good recommendation that they are familiar with, and is accessible to our members, please make a nomination at our meeting next Tuesday. I sometimes want to access a book that is not available at my library and look for it on the Internet Archive at https://archive.org . You may be interested to know that in 2020 four of the world’s largest publishers (Hachette, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, and Wiley) sued the archive for lending books via 'controlled digital lending'. That lawsuit, Hachette v. Internet Archive, is currently on appeal so thousands of the texts once freely available on line are presently quarantined, pending the outcome of the appeal. Nevertheles, a lot of historical material is still available. I look forward to hearing your thoughts about The Island of Sea Women next Tuesday. Best, Ross
