December Wine Appreciation - Bring out your Dead
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:30 PM – 06:30 PM
Gentlemen, At the last Wine Group Meeting, there was general agreement that we should try something different for December 6th (an almost Xmas event) hence the early notice. Instead of the normal hosted affair, we should try a “Bring Out Your Dead” event.  Many of us have wines we have had stored away for a long time and don’t know what to do with them.  We cant bring ourselves to throw it out but we’re not brave enough to open it with friends in case it is past its best.  These are our “dead” wines. If you have such a wine this event is meant for you.  All Members attending the next event are encouraged to bring along a wine they think might be past its best but on the other hand might just be great. Of course, not everyone hoards wine, so I expect some wont have anything to share.  That’s fine, as I am sure there will be plenty to go around.  If you don’t have an old wine you should still attend and just enjoy yourself.  Please do not go out and buy something. For this evening we will serve more food than usual but there wont be a charge for wine.  The evening cost will be $10/head for the food and we will increase the number of attendees to 20.  The “dead wine” will be considered a donation. If you intend to participate in the “Bring out Your Dead” event by bringing a wine please email me at slkeenihan@gmail.com so that I can get some idea of the number and type of wines we can expect and fill any gaps.  Otherwise please purchase a ticket as normal. As a word of warning, as this is a social event you may imbibe more wine than usual.  Our Beathalyser will be on hand but you are reminded to drink responsibly and certainly don’t Drink and Drive

SCMS November Luncheon: "Wiener Schnitzel"
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
12:30 PM – 02:30 PM
I promised to bring some inspiration and recipes back from my recent trip to Austria. And what could be more typical than a traditional "Wiener Schnitzel" with some tasty potato salad? To make it even more interesting, we will pair this with another typical Austrian dessert, an "Apfelstrudel" with whipped cream.  You can Google translate it if you don't understand the German diction, but I'm sure you get the drift - it's going to be super-delicious! To top it all, I have convinced our latest kitchen "apprentice" Andrew Britton to take the baton and use this event as his final "exam" to pass into our ranks of approved SCMS Kitchen Chefs. Going by his obvious skills to bake the most delicious scones for our weekly Thursday morning teas, Andrew is more than ready to execute this task with the support of our established kitchen team members - and I will be there to lend a hand, if necessary! Cost for food will be $15 with beer, wine and soft drinks at standard prices.  As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this luncheon. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. Members who intend to use a credit carried over from a previous event, please reply to this email and we will book you in.  Please register early to avoid the disappointment of missing this special occasion as the lunch room capacity is strictly limited.  We hope you will join us! Regards, Werner Ribul.
