SCMS February 2023 Sundowner - Pizzas Galore!
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
06:00 PM – 09:00 PM
This month we are back cooking what so many Shed members love: "Pizzas from our Wood-fired Oven"! For this, we have pursuaded a new Pizza Chef to lead our young team of pizza makers. Ian Frizza, who has his own pizza oven, will help us to prepare a selection of delicious pizzas which we will serve with a nice garden salad. This will be followed by an, as yet, secret dessert to satisfy those of you who have a "wee sweet tooth". Cost for food will be $18 with beer and wine at standard prices.  As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this luncheon. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. For this event, spouses and partners are very welcome to join, so please register early to avoid the disappointment of missing out on this occasion as the venue capacity is strictly limited.  We hope you will be able to join us!

SCMS Luncheon: Burgers & Chips
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
12:30 PM – 02:30 PM
Dear Fellow Sheddies, We've chosen a global staple for our next Members luncheon in the form of a "Home-made Burger and Chips". Nothing easier, right? Well, not quite, if you want to make the perfect burger - and that's what your kitchen team has set out to do! If this does not convince you yet to sign up for a seat at the table, our dessert will surely bowl you over: "Buchteln" with custard. What are "Buchteln"? They are a traditional sweet accompanyment for the afternoon cup of coffee in a Viennese café, a simple but tasty yeast dough filled with a good-size dollop of "Don's Apricot jam" sitting in a 'lake' of Andrew's home-made custard or, if you prefer, simply dusted with icing sugar as the Viennese people enjoy them. I can promise you there won't be any left at the end of the meal! Cost for food will be $18 with beer and wine at standard prices.  As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this luncheon. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. I hope you will be able to join us, best regards, Werner.

CARBATEC SHARPENING WORKSHOP
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Invitation from Carbatec to attend Sharpening Workshops in 2023 My name is Graham MacKellar and I work for Carbatec, managing the requirements of the Men's Sheds in Western Australia.  The Men's Sheds are an important part of Carbatec's clients and my role is to provide a range of services that will benefit the operation of the Men's Sheds. These services include advice that may be required when purchasing new machines, assistance in any aspects of business conducted with Carbatec and a range of workshops designed to increase the skills of shed members and enable more members to understand how to use various machines correctly.  One workshop that has proven to be very popular within the Men's Sheds is a sharpening workshop based around the Tormek T8 wet grind sharpening system ( The Showground shed already owns this particular machine) demonstrating how to sharpen workshop chisels, plane blades, roughing gouges, bowl gouges, skews and kitchen knives. In addition, the session also covers the features of the Tormek, how to care for and adjust it and how to true a grinding wheel.  The session typically runs for about an hour, however I will be available afterwards to answer any specific questions that people may have.    Subsequent to the workshop and after approximately 2-3 weeks, I conduct a second " Hands on" session where I might be able to guide the designated sharpeners in the best practices in using the Tormek. To conduct the workshop, I will bring everything with me and only require bench space on which to set up and a power point. Also, these workshops are provided free of any charge and can be conducted as many times as required to cover off all interested members. Should you wish to record the session  there are no issues, however, any copies are for internal use only and must not be broadcast on any external media and cannot be sold for financial gain.   Regards Graham Mackellar Business Development Manager

Electronics Group revilatalisation
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
The Shed Electronics Group, whilst having some 29 sheddies nominated as being part of this group, has been anything but active as a group. Due to it's apparent lack of obvious activity, the Shed is considering disbanding this group. However, before we take this step, we thought we would hold a meeting of Sheddies to discuss if we can revitalise this group. The intention would be to establish a new leadership team approach that  has worked well with other groups and see if there is indeed an appetite for this group moving forward. If you are at all interested in electronics and related fields then I urge you to come along and let your views be heard and perhaps putting your hand up to be one of the leadership team to take this group forward. Following the meeting there will be the chance of a few beers or wines to share with your fellow Sheddies. Please register your attendance by obtaining one of the free tickets so we have some idea of anticipated numbers.  Best regards Peter Panek President
