Whatever happened to that Survey we did last year?!"  Sheddies have been asking? Well, at long last the results are in, and they are impressive.  After an extended campaign by the Survey Team in late 2023, a staggering 240 Sheddies (87%) eventually filled out the survey, telling us how they heard about the Shed, how often they come, what they do when they are here, and what they would change about the Shed if they could, along with a host of other information.  And the results are eye-opening. It is high time to share the Survey results with our members. Come along to the Shed on Wednesday Feb 7th to hear about the findings from the Shed’s first-ever survey of members, and how the Shed leadership is using that information to engage better with all its members. Please note the event will start at the earlier time of 3:00pm and wind up around 5:00pm. So come along, be educated, inquisitive, engaged and be social by enjoying the company of your fellow Sheddies at this Sundowner. All members are welcome to join our new team leaders, Bruno and Richard, every Tuesday and Wednesday morning for the bicycle group's regular bicycle repair events.  No experience is necessary but a good sense of humour is encouraged to fully appreciate the friendly banter and fellowship during these events.  No tickets are required, just come along.

Happy New Year to all the Wine Group members.  Our first Group tasting will happen on February 6th, starting at 4;30pm.  This month we have a tag team comprising Les Gunn and Michael Hart.  The theme is “Compare the Pair”.  You will be provided with an Australian wine and its equivalent from elsewhere.  I shouldn’t give hints as to where the other wines will come from but Les tells me he has been drawing on advice from a friend who is Italian - American so that may be a guide or perhaps a misdirection. As normal the number of attendees is limited to 20 and the cost for the evening is $25.  Our Tastings have recently been oversubscribed so its recommended you get in early and buy a ticket.  Otherwise you might miss out on our first tasting of 20324 and all the challenge and fun it entails

All Members who intend to be part of the Woodworking Group will need to complete this Power Tools Induction Training. There is a once off Cost of $10 for this Training Course, which can be paid when you purchase a ticket. There will be a maximum of 3 persons for each Training Session.  If after booking, for some reason you cannot attend the training, please advise the Red Dot coordinator, Jeremy Wallace, on 0406927650 (SMS please), or email (jeremy.wallace@iinet.net.au) as soon as possible, so we can arrange another session for you.  The successful completion of the Red Dot Training is a pre-requisite to booking the Blue Dot Woodwork Machinery Course. Once you have completed this Training, your Membership Badge will updated to show a Red Dot and enable you to undertake any projects in the Main Workshop that utilise only Power Tools.

The title of Malcolm’s talk is “The Electric Household:  A Personal Journey”  In his presentation Malcolm will talk about his journey to electrify his family's life, what they have done and proof of how it has worked.   This talk will discuss energy and how it is consumed with a modern lifestyle, what contributes most to household emissions, and what can be done to reduce these emissions without a significant sacrifice to a modern lifestyle.  The talk will include real-world results that his family have achieved from the simple actions that can be taken. The talk will also touch on what was involved to convert a car to electric, and his family's experience of living with an electric car for the past 14 years. NOTE: If you have already registered for this event, there is no need to register again.

To maintain your Blue Dot Woodworking Accreditation you will need to, you will need to undertake a Verification of Competency (VOC) Assessment as follows. Woodworking members aged under 75 years will be assessed every 24 months Woodworking members aged 75 to 84 years will be assessed every 18 months Woodworking members older than 85 years  will be assessed every 12 months You will be assigned a simple task which shouldn’t take more than about 30 minutes. This is not a test of your craftsmanship; it is simply a demonstration that you can competently use the machinery unsupervised without endangering yourself or others.  You can book your VOC Assessment by clicking on your preferred VOC Assessment date below. The Rostered Supervisor for the day will oversee your assessment and he will either deem you "competent" or refer you to a Trainer for further assessment or training. If you choose not to do the VOC Assessment,  you will no longer be able to use the Machine Room equipment unsupervised.

Want to learn how to design cnc projects and cut them on the cnc router? John Hassell will be running a two part introductory course for those interested in CNC routing. This course will give you some insight into the potential of cnc routing in woodworking projects. The course will be run over two consecutive Friday morning sessions staring at 9:00 am in the Shed Meeting Room. The first Friday session on February 2nd  will be an introduction to VCarve Pro, the CAD software used to design cnc projects. The second Friday session on February 9th will be practical session on the cnc  router. In the first session we will work through a simple name plate design in VCarve Pro step by step, and in the second session we will look at how to set up and machine a project on the cnc machine. To participate in this course you will need:- 1. Reasonable computer literacy. 2. A Windows laptop computer and mouse. Sorry, VCarve Pro will not run on an Apple computer. 3. A functioning copy of VCarve Pro Trial Edition installed on your laptop. The Photography Leadership Team is holding its first workshop in February to discuss the diverse range of photography activities that are proposed during 2024. 2024 PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM OVERVIEW We have an extensive program for 2024 which includes workshops, field trips and projects to cater for still and video photography. Highlights include: A monthly project- the objective of our projects is not a competition, but rather to challenge members to take interesting and creative photos. Each month a workshop led by experienced photographers to help improve our knowledge of photography followed by a field trip as an opportunity to practice these skills. An overnight field trip in October to the Albany Region ( final dates subject to transport & accommodation arrangements) to photograph local flora & fauna, rugged landscapes and of course visit some of the local “watering holes”.
