Introduction To CNC Routing
09:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Want to learn how to design cnc projects and run them on the cnc router? John Hassell will be running a two part introductory course for those interested in CNC routing. This course will give you some insight into the potential of cnc routing in woodworking projects. The course will be run over two consecutive Saturday morning sessions. The first Saturday session on July 8th will be an introduction to VCarve Pro, the CAD software used to design cnc projects. The second Saturday session on July 15th will be practical session on the cnc  router. In the first session we will work through a simple name plate design in VCarve Pro step by step, and in the second session we will look at how to set up and machine your project 0n the cnc machine. To participate in this course you will need:- 1. Reasonable computer literacy. 2. A Windows laptop computer and mouse. Sorry, VCarve Pro will not run on an Apple computer. 3. A functioning copy of VCarve Pro Trial Edition installed on your laptop. This can be downloaded from https://www.vectric.com/support/makerspace-sign-up Make sure you download and install V11.0 not V11.5. Version 11.5 is incompatible with our licence. 4. A piece of MDF or pine roughly 350 mm x 50 mm x 15 mm The course is free, but you will need to take a ticket as we limit numbers to the first 10 persons. See you there in the Shed Meeting Room. Beer & Bullshit Sundowner
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
At this stage only a limited number of Sheddies have signed up for this Beer and Bullshit event and also for the upcoming Shed Lunch next Tuesday 11th. Now, we know it is Mid Winter, but the lack of enthusiasm from our members is a tad dissapointing. The organisers, guest speakers, food chefs and Kitchen group members endeavour to meet the regularly stated requirements of the Shed members to have engaging oportunities to meet and socialise with other members. All of these events are being organised for the benefit of our members and will only be a success and be continued if you, our members, attend and support the events. Hoping you will join us. After a small pause over the month of June, we are back for our next Beer and Bullshit event on Wednesday 5th July. Continuing with the Theme of discovering the expertise of our own shed members, this event will host our very own Sheddie, Dr John Suthers. John Suthers has agreed to share with us his story which has centred around his life as a medico. He spent half his career on the international circuit and saw service in the Australian army and the British army. He worked for Shell International for 13 years and had postings in Holland and the UK as well as Saudi Arabia.  As a young doctor he worked on the cruise liners of the day during his holidays as a ship’s doctor. For some 25 years he owned a 100-acre farm on the Hunter River in Newcastle.  In the last 10 or so years he has been a beekeeper and a glider pilot.  He still works half a day a week and has a six-and-a-half-day weekend. As per usual, folowing John's talk, there will be loads of time for questions, fellowship and the opportunity to socialise with your fellow Sheddies. Our concept is to provide a stimulating talk for these social gatherings which will stimulate social discourse. The Shed is endevouring to promote the social aspects and benefits of belonging to our Shed and so your Shed shall subsidise the cost of the nibbles for this event. Drinks are available at normal Shed pricing. So come along, be educated, be inquisitive, be engaged and be social by enjoying the company of your fellow Sheddies at this Sundowner. Best regards Peter Panek President
