Is it true that older people are stuck in their ways? If so, how can mature adults change their lifestyle or adopt new habits? You'd think science would've worked that out by now! Bret Treasure is the author of an amusing book on a 'hack' that has people suddenly exercising, creating, studying or giving up bad habits. It's radical, it's based on behaviour science, and it works. Come and find out about it.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP: SHUTTER SPEED
02:00 PM – 04:30 PM
PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP: SHUTTER SPEED AT THE SHOWGROUNDS MENS SHED AT 2PM, THURSDAY 20 APRIL This workshop focuses on shutter speed and will demonstrate its importance in managing exposure, in conjunction with aperture and ISO. Shutter speed is very important in many genres of photography, including landscapes. In this way, shutter speed offers wonderful possibilities for creativity, depending on how it is applied to manage movement. For example, it can be used to blur or freeze movement, to convey different impressions of movement and moods. Thus, mastering shutter speed offers additional horizons to the photographer, particularly in landscapes and sports/activities. Please bring your camera and tripod. After Peter presents an overview of some of the possibilities and camera settings for shutter speed, we will adjourn to the area outside the shed and apply some of the learnings. In conjunction with this part of the workshop we will introduce the shutter speed workshop: "Movement with Grace”. The results for this project are due on 1 May, for workshop review on 4 May. In addition, we will present the voting outcomes for the Tranquility project Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday Peter Buck (Photo: 1972 09 01 Tray 6 045 S14 Gold Coast beach.jpg by Les)

Visit to a Saw Mill
Fremantle Timber Traders
08:30 AM – 10:30 AM
Hi All, Damian Miskimmin from Fremantle Timber Traders has offered us a tour of their saw mill, wood drying and storage facilities.  There is a limit of 20 members for the tour, so please get your free tickets early. Fremantle Timber Traders are located at 41 Wood St Fremantle where they have a large stock of timber slabs and milled boards available for sale to the public.  They mill their own logs and store the resulting timber for drying prior to sale.  We will be able to see the whole process and to discuss all aspects with Damion during the visit. The visit will take place on Thursday 13th April commencing at 8.30am at 41 Wood St Fremantle.  Damian will have a log on the mill and will show us how he decides how to mill it and what he’s looking for to produce the best yield from the log.  We will also be able to ask questions and discuss the timber he has available and what he recommends for different projects.
