Dear Sheddie, Have you ever thought about getting a beehive and enjoying fresh honey from your own hive?  Well now is the perfect time to jump in!  The Mens Shed has beehives available for members to purchase at a very reasonable price, and we are starting our Beginning Beekeeper Program for 2023 now!  We can set you up with a hive of your own, and train you how to run it.  We have a great group of beekeepers of all abilities at the Shed who will be with you all the way. Join us at the Shed this Saturday morning (Jan 21st) at 9 am for a three hour INTRODUCTION TO BEES AND BEEKEEPING.  This is our first training session for the year and it is FREE.   We start from the basics and by the end of the morning you will know everything you need to get started.  This event is open to all Sheddies and you are welcome to join us, even if you are just curious and want to find out a bit more about bees in general. After the session we will be bottling some of our freshly harvested Mens Shed honey, so please join in the fun if you would like to get your hands sticky.  Everyone who helps gets a free jar of honey! If you would like to join us please book in using the link below.  This event is FREE, but we just need to know numbers to plan for morning tea. Don’t miss this great chance to find out more about bees!  Look forward to seeing you there. Cheers, Curt McDonald Beekeeping Head

Field trips to practice our skills and knowledge gained during the workshops including a very successful 3-day field trip to the Porongurup and Stirling Ranges photographing wildflowers, landscapes and visits to local wineries. We purchased a DJI mini-drone last year to train members on how to successfully fly the drone in accordance with Australian Aviation Regulations and take aerial photos and video to record a different perspective.  Some have since bought their own drones which are used on Group field trips and projects. We had four very informative one day workshops with hands-on sessions on photo editing using Lightroom and Photoshop. 2023 PROGRAM We have an extensive program for 2023 which includes workshops, field trips and projects to cater for still and video photography.  Highlights include: two workshops/field trips a month – to improve our knowledge of photography and then the opportunity to practice these skills Drone pilot training using our shed drone Access to knowledgeable people on Lightroom and Photoshop An overnight field trip in October to the Goldfields (subject to transport & accommodation arrangement) to photograph beautiful wildflowers, rugged landscapes and of course visit some of the local “watering holes”. Program Improvements for 2023 include: Applied workshop sessions on the main genres of photography to develop skill levels on how to gain the most from your camera and capture optimal images. All members to be allocated a mentor from the Leadership Team to support your development to take better photos and videos. An induction program for active members to ensure they have the necessary skills to utilise the Group’s computers, printers, scanners and related websites. Improvements to a photography members website for uploading and sharing photos within the group. A regular forum to assist members learn to better use their cameras. Align members with similar cameras so they can share knowledge on specific camera functions and support each other. ACTIVE PHOTOGRAPHY MEMBER FEES To be an active photography member in 2023 to 30 June 2023, a fee of $30 (therefore half year) has been set in accordance with the Shed fiscal reporting period. This fee enables you to attend all Workshops and related activities, and use of the Photography Group’s computers, scanners and printers.  Attendance at the Sundowner after each workshop is optional at cost of $10/head to cover the wine and nibbles.
