Morning tea with scones, jam and cream
10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
The Shed would like to encourage all of our members to continue to come along to our fabulous morning teas on Thursday mornings, and since these are so successful we have been adding Monday mornings to the Event for sometime now. We have not been advertising it greatly, but am now correcting that oversight. Scones with jam and cream will be available each Monday for our members, visitors and guests to enjoy. Until we get a better understanding on how many people will come along for this morning tea, the supply of scones might intially run out, but be patient and we will adjust the number available as the evidence of demand is gathered. We know Thursday mornings are greatly appreciated and we hope you can also come along and enjoy Mondays as well. Join everyone in our lovely garden area (or in the conference room if the weather is inclement) for fresh baked scones, jam and cream with friendly companionship. Prospective members are welcome.

BIG4 Emu Beach Holiday Park
26-05-2024 12:00 PM – 07-06-2024 04:00 PM
Hi Guys The plan is for us to travel south on Monday 7th October 2024 and return to Perth on Friday 11th November 2024, staying away for 4 nights.  We plan to touch on all the recent workshops and provide members the opportunity to practice taking photos of landscapes, flowers, birds, wildlife and astrophotography.   We also hope to meet with a local Albany professional photographer to share their tips and advice in photography around Albany. As discussed during the Workshop on Thursday, we have provisionally booked accommodation in the BIG4 Emu Beach Holiday Park in Albany for 10 members to stay 4 nights from Monday 7th October to Friday 11thNovember 2024. The accommodation proposed is centrally located for our proposed photo shoots and offers each member a separate bedroom.  The Caravan Park also has large undercover cooking and barbeque area which would be ideal for our evening meals. To get a better idea of the accommodation and the facilities please refer to the Emu Point Caravan Park website at: https://www.big4emubeach.com.au The choices are: 2 bedroom chalets with kitchen & bathroom (5 off) – daily rate is $98.55/person for a total of $394.20 for 4 nights. Powered Caravan Sites (BYO Caravan) – several available some with ensuites but booking is direct with the Caravan Park at Email: info@big4emubeach.com.au or Phone: (08) 9844 1147. In order to secure the accommodation, we request that members select “Ticket #1”, to book and pay a deposit of $98.55 by 5pm Friday 7 June 2024.  Otherwise our bookings will lapse. If you plan to bring your own caravan, we recommend that you select “Ticket #2” below for our planning purposes, but you must arrange and pay for that site directly with the BIG4 Emu Beach Holiday Park. There has been great interest in this event. If all the chalet accommodation “spots” are taken we may be able to book additional chalets if we have more than 10 members seeking accommodation. The Holiday Park has advised that it may have more chalets available should this be required.  If you are keen to participate and bookings are full could you let Mike Somerville-Brown or Chris Porter know as soon as possible. I hope you can join us. Mike Somerville-Brown Photography Group Leader

ARTS National - Power of Photography
State Library of Western Australia
02:00 PM – 03:30 PM
Presentation: "The Power of Photography" by Roger Mendham This presentation at the State Library should be a good adjunct to the Black and White Project this month. A short description of the presentation is as follows: Photographs have the ability to stop time, to provide a freeze-frame of a moment in both time and space. They give the observer the opportunity to think, to react, to feel and soak in the details of the circumstances surrounding the image. This talk, given by Roger Mandham, examines some the most important photographers and images of the past century. It explores why these images are so powerful and influential in our understanding of history. A keen and accomplished photographer, Roger Mendham has gained distinctions from the Royal Photographic Society and is currently the President of the Surrey Photographic Association. His artistic taste is predominantly 20th Century, and he is particularly interested in the visual aspects of art. His photography concentrates on shapes, textures and colours. He has studied the history of photography from its earliest developments in the early 1830s to becoming a major art form in the late 20th and now 21st Century. An experienced public speaker, his presentations are all richly illustrated and this talk incudes the background to some of the greatest photographs ever taken. When: 2-3:30pm Saturday 25 May 2024 Location: Theatrette, State Library of Western Australia, 25 Francis Street Perth Tickets and Payment Step 1: Please select Shed ticket below if you are planning to attend (this tells the Photography Team who is planning to attend) so we can arrange to get a coffee/tea after the event. TryBooking Link to purchase a admission ticket   Transport Paid Parking is available under the Alexander Library or in adjacent carparks. 09:00 AM – 01:00 PM
Dear SCMS Kitchen Team Member, Our Pizza Masterchef Simon Benwell has kindly offered to teach us all about making delicious "Pizzas a la Simon" at the Men's Shed. This will involve all stages of the process starting with making of the Red Sauce, the pizza balls, firing of the wood-fired oven and the prep and cooking of his delicious pizzas. The masterclass will be "hands-on" for all participants and the end result will be enjoyed as a group lunch. The ultimate aim of this masterclass is to introduce more SCMS kitchen team members to our Pizza-making process and help in running Pizza events when Simon might not be available in future. Please grab a free ticket for this event to help us gauge interest and purchase the required amount of ingredients to feed everybody. We will have a natural limit of participants, so please book early to avoid disappointment. We hope you can join us for this free event. Best regards, Werner
