There will be a maximum of 3 persons for each Session. The Cost of this course (for both Phases) is $20.  If after booking, for some reason you cannot attend the training, please advise the Woodworking Team Lead, Michael Cahill on 0459062090 as soon as possible, so we can arrange another session for you.  If you cancel or are a “no show” on the day you will lose your $20 fee so please, only book if you can commit to the two consecutive weeks. Our next event is on March 1st.  Tony Henry  and I (deputising for Kim Roberts who has an urgent trip to Rotto) will be orchestrating the theme and providing the wine.  Since the last meeting there has been some discussion on the format of the night, attendance, guests etc. and the evening will start off with a short discussion by the members to determine the group preferences.  Please come ready to contribute.    As usual please enrol by purchasing a ticket.

The SCMS wood fired oven is now operational and has had a trial run.  Now, Pizza Chef Extraordinaire Simon Benwell, will give the oven a real workout and produce FOUR flavours of pizza for members to enjoy at this Sundowner to follow the February health presentation.  The kitchen team will prepare some salad to accompany the pizza.  PLUS the kitchen team will also prepare Tiramisu to give a sweet finish to your meal. Cost for food will be $15 with beer, wine and soft drink at standard prices.  We require your registration and pre-payment so that we know how many pizzas we need to cook.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this sundowner. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. Dr Chris Allen is a Member of the Shed and is a highly qualified and well known Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon.  He graduated from Monash Melbourne University with honours in surgery in 1975, and obtained his Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1987. Since then he has been practising in all aspects of Plastic Surgery, before retiring from Surgery in 2020. He is past Vice President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and was Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at St John of God Hospital Hospital in Subiaco for 14 years. He was also an Emeritus Consultant at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where he worked for 17 years. He teaches medical students at UWA and Notre Dame Universities, and has been part of a number of voluntary overseas Plastic Surgery missions to underdeveloped countries. Chris has excised over 12,000 skin cancers during his work as a Plastic Surgeon. Chris currently he works as a Medico-legal Consultant in Plastic Surgery. In his Presentation, Chris will show us some of the benign non-cancerous skin lesions and what they look like. He will also discuss the malignant skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma, all of which are common in the age group of the Men’s Shed; and show us how they are treated. As per normal we will be having a Sundowner after the Presentation.  More information about the Sundowner will be sent out to all members shortly, so keep Tuned.

Chef Sami Tadros will lead the Kitchen team in the preparation of a traditional “Egyptian Feast”, featuring some authentic dips (Hummus and Baba Ghanoush), a Beef casserole served with Egyptian rice with egg noodles and some oven-baked eggplant. We will finish the meal with a small serve of Egyptian rice pudding and basbousa (Semolina cake).
