He will illustrate how it can enhance the impact of movement and be a significant influencer of mood in the final image.  We will have the opportunity to review our photos at the end of the workshop. The next wine appreciation night is scheduled for September 7th.  We have Mike Hart doing white then Malcolm Tew, Neil McKinnon and Steve Gerreyn each bringing red.  At this meeting, Leigh Gerryn will be joining us to share with us some of his passion and experience about wine (and perhaps ensure Steve doesn’t tell any porkys about his red).  It promises to be an interesting night. During the month some members have aired some thoughts about the format of the night and Graeme and I will be seeking feedback on whether things can be changed or improved.  Presentations have generally been well received but some think they can be a little too long (and erode valuation drinking time and discussion).  Others have suggested a change in approach whereby an individual volunteers to run the entire evening and bring wines to illustrate a theme they are keen to share with us.  In this vein we could set up a schedule months in advance so that there is plenty of time to ponder the theme and obtain the necessary wines. Of course nothing should be “fixed in stone” and a combinations of formats may be the best way to accommodate everyone’s preferences.

Our first two Sundowners have proved to be very popular.  They presented a great opportunities for our Shed members to come together and swap stories whilst enjoying a beer or wine at extremely reasonable prices. Here is your chance to join with other like minded individuals to meet and get acquainted with your Shed buddies at our next Beer and Bullshit Sundowner. As per usual, minor nibbles will be available, but don't expect too much as I am not part of the Kitchen group. Drinks will be priced at a subsidised price of $4 for any beer or glass of wine which you can choose from our stock on hand. We have chosen to hold this event on the last day of the month inorder to try and avoid other events/meetings regularly held at the Shed as the Shed has a busy schedule. Payment is made at the end of the night, so just keep your own tab and settle up before you go. Also any assistance to clean up will be greatly appreciated.

This Health and Nutritionist Talk will be presented by one of our favourite Presenters David Beard, an Exercise Physiologist and a member of our Shed. David helps individuals to get metabolically healthy. For some that results in significant weight loss. For others it might be less fatigue, clothes fitting better, improved mental health and greater ability to focus. Just about everyone reports feeling better and having more energy. The key is having the ability to measure a person's metabolic profile and then developing an eating, exercise, sleep and stress management program that works for them. It's not a quick fix, but the results are sustainable and help people get control of the things that most affect their health and performance. Knowing David, this will be a very informative talk. As usual the Presentation will run between 4.30pm and 5.30pm followed by our Monthly Sundowner between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, where our Kitchen Team will serve some tasty morsels for $5 per head and Wine and Beer will be available at their normal low prices. I know there will be a lot of interest in this subject, so get in quick and book your free ticket.

Ever wondered how your phone or your car navigation system knows where it is? Come along to a talk by Shed member Ian Rumble for a non-technical explanation of how GPS, the Global Positioning System, works. This event is free, but please take a ticket so we know how many people to expect.

Shutter speed is equally important, in a range of photographic genres. It is not just a control for freezing fast movement. It is far more. This presentation will take you on a short journey, summarising Peter’s personal experience using shutter speed, for a variety of situations. He will illustrate how it can enhance the impact of movement and be a significant influencer of mood in the final image.”   3:45pm Cattle Mustering in the Kimberley - Jim Thom Jim Thom shows snippets from his life during the 1960s in the North of WA. It was a very tough life. Men, Cattle, Horses, Trucks and heavy machinery are featured in his talk with photographs collected by Jim and his family. This month the Cooking Group regular Bill MacLeod will lead the kitchen team in preparation of a winter classic - "Steak 'n' Kidney pie".  This will be the deconstructed version, so don't expect like you buy at the deli.  To finish you rmeal we will offer an "Eton Mess" - a English classic or smashed pavlova! Cost for food will be $15 with beer and wine at standard prices.  As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this luncheon. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. Gents We have received our first box of 100 photos to be scanned for the Claremont Museum. (we hope to scan more boxes of photos over the next few weeks. I invite those members who indicated earlier that they could assist with the task of scanning to attend a short 30min session to be led by Les Gunn to confirm that they know:     1. How to use the scanner     2. Scanning settings required to meet the Museum's archive requirements. If you have your own scanner bring it along with your laptop computer. Les will run two sessions on Thursday 5 August at the Mens Shed. Therefore if you can assist us in scanning historical photos please select a "ticket" for either: Session 1: 2 to 2.30pm 5 August 2021 Session 2: 3 to 3:30pm 5 August 2021 I hope you can attend this workshop and assist us to scan this first and subsequent boxes of photos. On Friday, 30 July 2021 at 11.00am, the Shed will be hosting a Devonshire Morning Tea for members, their partners and invited guests to celebrate World Friendship Day. As usual the scones, jam and cream, together with tea and coffee will provided by our wonderful kitchen team.  Gluten free options will also be available. The Tea is being sponsored by Friends for Good Inc. which is also providing individual boxes of chocolates for attendees. There is no cost for attending, but numbers will be limited due to Covid restrictions. We must provide numbers to Friends for Good Inc. well in advance, so please book by no later than 2 July 2021 to secure your place(s).

A great story from a WA based Fishing Company David Carter is the CEO of the world’s first carbon-neutral commercial fishing company and has been recognised in a global award for ocean sustainability David has worked his entire career – from deckhand to CEO – at one of Australia’s largest commercial fishing companies. This year marks his 43rd anniversary with Austral Fisheries; a company he has continuously steered towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. His professional achievements include integrating sustainable sourcing and production, using environmentally responsible fishing practices, battling illegal fishing, and building globally recognised seafood brands such as Glacier 51 Toothfish and Skull Island Tiger Prawns. Austral Fisheries works to understand what’s happening in the ocean, how to engage with environmental NGOs and looks at the long-term outcome. “We are seeing governments slowly start to embrace science in a way that I think will be powerful. It offers us hope for some of our bigger climate challenges." As part of their advocacy for sustainable oceans, Austral Fisheries has partnered with Sea Shepherd to remove the seas of illegal fishing. “We share a common interest in bringing more climate action into the public policy debate and trying to do something together about marine ocean plastics,” David says. David was also the driving force behind Austral becoming the first seafood company to be certified as carbon neutral in 2016. One hundred per cent of Austral Fisheries’ carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions are offset each year through a native biodiverse revegetation project in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor. This initiative has resulted in more than 200,000 native trees being planted each year. Having known David for close to 20 years I am in awe of his achievements and passion for his Industry.  Also an avid Cyclist, Photographer and Drone enthusiast and just a darn good guy. 2:00pm "Then and Now" Project - Team Presentations This Workshop is a presentation by our photography group teams to present their photos for our first team project, "Then and Now", a pictoral history of our local area. We have in teams of 2-3 members attempted to document some of the landscape, buildings and activities within our community by developing a pictorial timeline in our community over the last 100 years. We have received and used a set of historical photographs of the Claremont area thanks to the generous support of the Claremont Museum. We have also take a current photo from the same vantage point. Due to the age of many of the photos we have applied restoration techniques using Lightroom, Photoshop or other software packages to enhance the images.  We hope in partnership with the Claremont Museum to arrange a photo exhibition inviting community members to view our collection of photos illustrating the changing landscape in our community over the last 100 years.
