Woodworking Machinery Induction (Blue Dot) – Phases 1 & 2 All Members who wish to use the woodworking machinery in the Machine Room will need to complete Phase 1 & Phase 2 of the Woodworking Machinery Induction Training. Please Note that Members must have completed the Red Dot course before enrolling in this Blue Dot course? This Course will be conducted in two Phases over two consecutive weeks so you must be able to commit to both sessions before purchasing a ticket. Each Phase will be approximately a two hour duration. There will be a maximum of 3 persons for each Session. The Cost of this course (for both Phases) is $20.  If after booking, for some reason you cannot attend the training, please advise the Woodworking Team Lead, Michael Cahill on 0459062090 as soon as possible, so we can arrange another session for you.  If you cancel or are a “no show” on the day you will lose your $20 fee so please, only book if you can commit to the two consecutive weeks. Payments can be made online by secure credit card.  Once you have completed both phases of the Woodworking Machinery Induction your Membership Badge will be updated to replace the Red Dot with a Blue Dot.  This will reflect that you have completed all the necessary Woodworking Training and are ready to undertake any Woodworking projects in the Shed.

SCMS Luncheon - Egyptian Feast

Our first SCMS luncheon in 2022 will take us to the banks of the river Nile. Chef Sami Tadros will lead the Kitchen team in the preparation of a traditional “Egyptian Feast”, featuring some authentic dips (Hummus and Baba Ghanoush), a Beef casserole served with Egyptian rice with egg noodles and some oven-baked eggplant. We will finish the meal with a small serve of Egyptian rice pudding and basbousa (Semolina cake). Cost for food will be $15 with beer, wine and soft drinks at standard prices.  As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this luncheon. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. Members who intend to use a credit carried over from a previous event, please reply to this email and we will book you in.  Please register early to avoid the disappointment of missing this special occasion as the lunch room capacity is strictly limited.  We hope you will join us!

All Members who intend to be part of the Woodworking Group will need to complete this Power Tools Induction Training. There is a once off Cost of $10 for this Training Course, which can be paid when you purchase a ticket. There will be a maximum of 3 persons for each Training Session.  If after booking, for some reason you cannot attend the training, please advise the Woodworking Team Lead, Michael Cahill on 0459062090 as soon as possible, so we can arrange another session for you. The successful completion of the Red Dot Training is a pre-requisiste to booking the Blue Dot Woodwork Machinery Course. Once you have completed this Training, your Membership Badge will updated to show a Red Dot and enable you to undertake any projects in the Main Workshop that utilise only Power Tools.

A final Beer and Bullshit Sundowner at the Tiger Bar in Claremont

This is the last week of the 4 week trial to take the opportunity to partake of good food and drink at the Tiger Bar located at the Claremont Football club. Last week several Shed members attended and enjoyed the evening with friends and acquaintances. So come along and see what is on offer in your neighbourhood. All Sheddies are invited to attend the Clarmont Football Tiger Bar for a Sundowner in lieu of our regular Beer and Bullshit event at the Shed. Why, did I hear you say? Well, The Claremont Football Club is trying to encourage better usage of their facility by the general public. They have engaged El Cabro Coffee to engage with the Public to encourage the public to come along El Cabro Coffee is a newly established Café located in the Football club building at 3 Davies Road Claremont and they make a very good coffee El Cabro Coffee have already held a successful event at the Tiger Bar EL Cabro have organised well priced food options for attendees which is of a far better quality than I could ever provide at the Shed for our Beer and Bullshit sessions Prices are very reasonable as they are generally at Football club pricing for drinks, with a Pint of beer available for $10 Partners are also welcome to attend the Sundowner This is a great opportunity to visit and enjoy this wonderful community facility You can bring along your dog if you choose to sit in the outside area Seating is available inside or outside, depending on your requirements The Tiger Bar is open from 4:30 till late, but attendance from say 4:30 to 5:00 onwards is recommended so we can enjoy the Sundowner period during the optimum time frame. These Sundowners will run each Friday for the next 3 weeks, so will be held on 21st and 28th January and 4th February. And for the purpose of total transparency, my son, James Panek, is the proprietor of El Cabro and since I am trying to support him in this venture, I cannot attend or organise the usual Beer and Bullshit session at the Shed Whilst this is not your usual Shed event, it is a great opportunity for our Shed Community to mix with the local community and enjoy what it has to offer. Now that the festive season has abated its time to rekindle our wine appreciation meeting.  Thankfully the first Tuesday is before the opening of WA so we should have limited restrictions.   You may remember that this meeting was to be hosted by Leigh Gerreyn but alas he isnt yet double vaccinated so is prevented from entering our premises.  Hopefully we can reshedule for later in the year. Alan is a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with 57 years  experience across a broad range of military and civil aircraft. He is licensed on all light aircraft and helicopters and several turbine engines. His work has covered “hands on” maintenance to management roles on both helicopters and fixed wing types, in Regular Passenger Transport to private operations, both domestic and international. He has, in addition to his current Australian license, held a Malaysian civil license. Alan holds a CASA instrument to issue Certificates of Airworthiness (Import & Export) on any aircraft and has since gaining this (2005) issued over 127 in Australia and overseas. He issued the first Light Sport Aircraft CoA in Australia. He has also issued 171 aircraft valuations since 2005.   As a Certified ISO9002 Lead Auditor and has performed safety/risk assessment and compliance audits for various clients domestically and overseas. These include offshore oil and gas, geo-survey, charter and RPT operators. Audits cover the aircraft themselves and the supporting maintenance organisations (Facilities, OH&S, Staff, Security), including major component overhaul/repair shops. Alan is passionate about safety and how the aircraft’s maintenance plays a significant part in the team effort required to realise both a safe flight and a profitable or “value for money” outcome for all stakeholders. Alan has taken this significant experience and put it to good use consulting for many private, corporate and government entities since starting his own business in late 2003 with a focus on safety, continuous improvement, maintenance best practices and valuations. Alan has since early 2016 held a CASA Remote Pilot Lic and his company (PlaneTorque Australia Pty Ltd) holds a CASA Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operators Certificate. As usual there will be a Sundowner following the Event commencing around 6pm. $5 per head plus drinks, pay on the night.  Partners are welcome.
