This workshop will be run in two parts: 2:00pm Creating Slideshows & Short Movies Now that we have learnt how to take better photos and short videos, Mike Somerville-Brown will demonstrate with examples how to use these photos/videos to create interesting slideshows and short movies to better present and share your collections with family and friends. 3:30pm Sharing Photo Collections Les Gunn will review the various methods for sharing your photo collections including through Lightroom, Apple Photos, Google Photos and Dropbox. 4:30pm Sundowner This Workshop will conclude with an opportunity to chat with our presenters over our usual wine and nibbles.  Workshop Tickets I remind all members to please register prior to the event to assist with catering and ensure that we comply with the meeting room capacity requirements. This Beer and Bullshit Sundowner is a new initiative of your management committee to engage with our members during an afternoon of beer tasting and stimulating conversation. We hope that this event, if adequately supported by our members, will become a regular occurrence on our busy calendar and forms the start of a new social occasion for each of us to enjoy. We will have several varieties of “Craft Beers” to enjoy and for the non-beer drinkers we shall have wine available along with the usual bar nibbles to accompany the alcohol. This is a low-key event and to encourage you to attend the committee has agreed to subsidise the first few of these and so drinks will be made available at regular club prices less $2/unit. Hence, regular beers become $3 each, a glass of wine at $3 each and the cost of the Craft beers will be $4 each. Where else can you get a $3 beer and loads of companionship? Naturally, the Shed wants you to drink safely and so recommends you do not drink and drive.  If you need a lift home, we recommend you use Uber as a cheap method of getting home.  If you can’t organise one for yourself, we will organise an Uber for you but you will be required to reimburse the Shed for the cost of the Uber ride before you leave the Shed by making a payment using the Payment Square terminal to cover the total cost. I hope to see as many along as possible on Tuesday however, due to Covid restrictions, we are limited to 30 members so please apply for your free ticket and hence register and secure your place. NOTE: YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO ATTEND THE FIRST SCMS COOKING COURSE! The course will be delivered over 2 sessions where you will learn to prepare 2 dishes during each session. Each session will be open to six members and be delivered by two “trainers” from within the SCMS Kitchen Team.  A course fee of $20 will be payable to cover the cost of ingredients.  Course attendees will work in pairs to prepare two serves of each of two dishes which they will eat for morning tea during a break, or for lunch at the end of each session.   YOU NOW NEED TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKET TO ATTEND THIS COURSE.  Click "GET TICKET" to confirm your spot.  Confirmed attendants will be allocated to one of 2 Groups (A or B, refer to the schedule below). Please let us know by return email if you have a preferance for either Group A (Wed 16th + 30th June) or Group B (Wed 23rd + 7th July).  There is flexibility at this stage to allocate seats, if necessary. FURTHER INFORMATION: Weekly sessions will start at 9:00am and finish at about 1:00pm and be structured along the following lines: Introduction to the two dishes to be prepared on the day and the produce purchased. Demonstration of first dish by trainers. Trainees will work in pairs to prepare a serve each of the first dish. Morning tea break and eat first dish (trainee feedback). Demonstration of second dish by trainers. Trainees will work in pairs to prepare a serve each of the second dish. Lunch break and eat second dish (trainee feedback). Wash up and clean kitchen. REFUND POLICY. There will be no refunds of the fee paid for tickets to participate in this course.  However, if you advise us of your inability to participate in the course prior to 12th June, the value of your ticket will be held as credit and you will be given the opportunity to attend a future course.  Early cancellation is required to allow the Kitchen team to secure a replacement participant.  If you give late notice of your withdrawal from the course and we are unable to find a suitable replacement, you will forfeit the value of your ticket.

This month we are bringing back our revered Asian Chef de Cuisine Keng Wong who will introduce us to some Singaporean delight - "Char Kway Teow". This is a very popular South East Asian dish which will be freshly cooked using our brand new Tiger Wok burner which will be set up on the outside of the conference room.  To finish off the meal, the Kitchen team will also produce a light Malay dessert called "Pulot Hitam" which is black gloutinous rice with coconut milk. Cost for food will be $12 with beer and wine at standard prices. As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  If you intend to use a credit carried over from a previous event, please reply to this email and we will book you in. You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this luncheon. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. 2:00pm Historical Photos Project Status Many of the teams are well progressed taking their current photographs and matching them with the rtelevant historical photos. We have also now purchased a high quality scanner and computer with a funding grant from the Town of Claremont to assist us with this project. This session will discuss three key tasks: 1. Getting the relevant high resolution historical images from the Town of Claremont by either downloading them from the Claremont Museum's digital archives or re-scanning the original. Depending on the number required we need to agree a process that meets the Museum's requirements for accessing and the preservation of these images. 2. As a gesture of goodwill we plan to assist the Museum to scan relevant images from the Museum's backlog of currently unscanned negatives, slides and prints for their preservation. We need volunteers for this task please. 3. Preparing a presentation of your team's historical and current photos preferably in a digital presentation.       3:15pm Mike Donaldson Presentation: Indigenous Rock Art Photography It gives us great pleasure to introduce our presenter, Mike Donaldson. Mike, is a geologist, avid photographer and bushwalker, who has devoted the past 30 years to systematically photographing and documenting indigenous rock art sights throughout the Kimberley, Burrup and selected areas elsewhere in Australia. The majority of the Kimberley art sites were previously unknown and were only discovered through Mike’s dedication and painstaking exploration on foot and with limited air support. The fruits of his labours have enabled Mike to create a wonderful series of quality, photographic rock art books, as well as an invaluable scientific legacy, comprising one of Australia’s largest photographic, rock art databases of some 100,000 images. Mike’s contributions are recognised nationally and internationally. He has generously donated his photographic collection for future management by UWA’s Centre for Rock Art Research. No doubt this collection will form the basis for a great deal of future research. Les Gunn will lead this workshop and show us how to share photos from your desktop computer to your smartphone, tablet or other mobile devices.  This workshop is continuing the series on Lightroom and Les will illustrate with examples and tips on how to sync previews, RAW images & entire catalogs between desktops, laptops and your mobile devices using Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC. The workshop will conclude with our regular sundowner where we can continue over a glass of wine or beer to discuss photography issues or problems. I hope to see you there. Mike Somerville-Brown

Members and guests are invited to stay around after the health prestentation on Wednesday 26th to enjoy a casual social discussion with others at our Shed.  The Kitchen Group will supply some tasty finger foods for your enjoyment.   The bar will be open and beer, wine and soft drink will be available to purchase. Members are encouraged to pre-purchase tickets to pay for the finger food, however, members and guests will be able to purchase both food and drink at the event.  Contactless payment is prefered.

Margaret River Field Trip (17 to 20 May 2021) - staying 3 nights at a lovely farmstay just outside Margaret River.  We are planning for a minimum of 6 people at an estimated cost of around $200 per person.   We plan to explore landscape photography in the region including the beach, river and forest all within easy reach of the farmstead. We also plan to do night/astro-photography as well as visit a local winery to sample some wines.  We have booked the Straw House which sleeps 9 people in beds and  a further 1 or 2 people if you are happy with a mattress on the floor at a discounted cost per person.
