CANCELLED - SCMS Monthly Sundowner AND Health Presentation - 5th May
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:30 PM – 08:00 PM
Hello Shedders. Unfortunately, both the Health Presentation and the Sundowner, which had been rescheduled to next Wednesday, 5th May, have both been CANCELLED.  We were unable to secure a presenter for the 5th May.  The Sundowners have been intended to support the Health Presentation, and besides that, the weather does not look conducinve to an outside event for next Wednesday. For members who have booked and paid for the Sundowner, your credit will be carried forward and is valid for any future SCMS event.   The kitchen team will prepare Thai influenced main dishes – pork meat ball with peanut sauce, fish patties and vermicelli salad.  We will not add chilli during cooking but will supply SCMS chilli jam for those who want a bit of spice in their meal.  Hang around after the savoury courses for our sweet sticky rice dessert. Cost for food will be $12.  Drinks will be available for purchase - beer, wine and soft drink at standard prices. You are welcome to purchase an additional ticket for your partner to attend this Sundowner.  The bar will be open from 4:30 in the garden so that your partner can purchase drinks while you attend the presentation inside the shed. We require pre-payment for meals with your registration. You will be able to get a credit for a future event if you cancel at least one day before the event. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee.

Photography Group Workshop "Then and Now" Project
02:00 PM – 05:00 PM
This Workshop is to plan our first team project, "Then and Now", a pictoral history of our local area. We propose to document the landscape, buildings and activities within our community by developing a pictorial timeline in our community over the last 100 years. We will in teams of 2-3 members collect a set of old photographs, slides or negatives from on-line resources, museums, libraries, residents in the community, or other sources and as required using an optical scanner digitise the photographs. Due to the age of many photos, slides or negatives we may need to apply restoration techniques using Lightroom, Photoshop or other software packages to enhance the scanned images. We will also seek information from the community and their stories to assist in analysing the photos to identify the subject, location and time of day. We will then take a current photo from the same vantage point. We are exploring a partnership with the Claremont Museum and hope to arrange a photo exhibition inviting community members to view our collection of photos illustrating the changing landscape in our community over the last 100 years. This project will call on some of the recent skills we are developing in landscape photography, scanning and editing photos.  I encourage you to attend this workshop and participate in this community project.
