No previous experience is necessary. We are a very informal group with a range of talents and abilities but just having a go - absolute beginners to "old" masters!

All Members who intend to be part of the Woodworking Group will need to complete this Power Tools Induction Training. There is a once off Cost of $10 for this Training Course, which can be paid when you purchase a ticket. Note: Members are required to complete the 'Yellow Dot' Shed Introduction session before taking part in a Red Dot training session. There will be a maximum of 3 persons for each Training Session.  If after booking, for some reason you cannot attend the training, please advise the Red Dot coordinator, Jeremy Wallace, on 0406927650 (SMS please), or email (jeremywallace5@outlook.com) as soon as possible, so we can arrange another session for you.  If you have trouble booking please contact Jeremy by SMS. The successful completion of the Red Dot Training is a pre-requisite to booking the Blue Dot Woodwork Machinery Course. Once you have completed this Training, your Membership Badge will updated to show a Red Dot and enable you to undertake any projects in the Main Workshop that utilise only Power Tools.

To maintain your Blue Dot Woodworking Accreditation you will need to, you will need to undertake a Verification of Competency (VOC) Assessment as follows. Woodworking members aged under 75 years will be assessed every 24 months Woodworking members aged 75 to 84 years will be assessed every 18 months Woodworking members older than 85 years  will be assessed every 12 months You will be assigned a simple task which shouldn’t take more than about 30 minutes. This is not a test of your craftsmanship; it is simply a demonstration that you can competently use the machinery unsupervised without endangering yourself or others.  You can book your VOC Assessment by clicking on your preferred VOC Assessment date below. The Rostered Supervisor for the day will oversee your assessment and he will either deem you "competent" or refer you to a Trainer for further assessment or training. If you choose not to do the VOC Assessment,  you will no longer be able to use the Machine Room equipment unsupervised.

We are scheduled to prepare another Homeless Meal in cooperation with Matilda Bay Rotary Club. And, for the first time ever, we will help to prepare a festive Xmas meal for the most needy people in the City. Together with Matilda Bay Rotary, we have devised a sumptious Xmas meal which will be cooked in the SCMS Kitchen before being served to some excited diners at the Homeless Meal distribution point in East Perth. Anybody is welcome to drop by our kitchen and say 'Hello' to our team. Best regards, Geoff.

The Photography Group’s Annual Christmas Function will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday 18 Dec 2025 in our alfresco garden area at the Showgrounds Men’s Shed.  Should we have inclement weather we will relocate to the Conference Room. This year we will commence with nibbles and drinks followed by meat and vegetarian pastas from Sal’s Pasta Deli, Cottesloe as the main course with some tasty morsels from the BBQ.  We will also have plenty of salads and for dessert a Christmas Log cake. Wine (at least a couple of glasses/person), light Beer and soft drinks will be provided.  Extra drinks can be purchased at Shed Prices.  The cost will be $30/person. Active photography members and their Partners are most welcome to attend.  For catering purposes it would be greatly appreciated if you could please purchase your ticket(s) by 5pm, Friday 28 Nov’25. Assistance Required on the day 3:30 pm setup the garden area with tables/chairs, glasses, etc. and finalise the salads. 4:00 pm Function commences 4:45 pm Start/run the Barbecue & serve meals 7:00 pm Tidy-up after the event and run the dishwasher, etc. We look forward to seeing you all there. Our 'Artisan Bread Baking Group' will be preparing some delicious sweet breads this afternoon, ready for baking on Thursday morning. In time for the festive season, Cooking Group Leader Werner Ribul will be teaching us how to bake the best "Sweet braided bread" in the West! This type of bread is a traditional staple in Austria ('Striezel') and Hungary ('Kalacs') around Xmas and Easter time. You will be able to smell and sample the 'spoils' of this effort if you visit the SCMS Kitchen on wednesday at 4pm.

It's high on time to book your seat for our 2025 Xmas lunch!  Only 1 week to go until our "Members-only" culinery highlight of the SCMS year - a sumptious "Christmas Luncheon" with food and drinks to die for! This time, we have pursuaded our newly-elected President & Chef Bill Macleod to lead the Kitchen Team. On the menu is a smorgasboard of freshly cooked prawns, Shed-honey glazed ham and some healthy salad options, followed by Michael Henderson's 'Xmas Ice cream Cake' - we are certain you will love it! We ask you to arrive by 12pm and settle in with your favourite drink in the "Great Mess Hall" before the food banquet will be opened fomally at 12:30pm. People arriving late will risk of missing out on some of the delights, so please be on time! Cost for food will be $25 with beer and wine at standard prices.  As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before the event. Should you need to cancel, please send an email to wernerribul@mac.com. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. The Shed will be closed on the following days:  Wednesday 24th, Christmas Day (25th), Boxing Day (26th) and Saturday 27th and also closed on December 31 and January 1st. Also note that there is restricted access to the Showgrounds precinct from today (15th Dec) until Friday January 9th.  During this period onsite parking is allowed but please ensure: High-visibility vests and enclosed footwear are worn at all times Vehicle speeds do not exceed 8 km/h (walking pace) Care is taken around heavy equipment and machinery operating on site We wish all our members a safe and joyful Christmas period. Hi Guys As requested at last week's Workshop, John Bolto has offered to run three one hour sessions on Thursday 11 Dec 2025 on the topics shown below. Each session is limited to 3 members who will as required the Meeting Room and then the computers in the Photography Room as John will provide individual information and assistance. Topics: 1. Lightroom/Photoshop (2-3pm) - demonstrate basic operations of importing and editing photos in the packages.  2. PhotoPils (3-4pm) - John will demostrate how to configure PhotPils for your camera and its functionality for planning & taking photos. 3. Camera Help Forum (4-5pm) - John will assist up to 3 members to better understand your camera's functions and operations.  Members must bring their camera and cameral manual. Please select your desired session by selecting the appropriate free ticket (max of three members per session) by 5pm Wed 10 Dec 2025 for planning purposes.
