SCMS Kitchen Team Lunch - Beiyrut Lebanese Restaurant
Beiyrut Restaurant
12:00 PM – 02:00 PM
We are ready for our second Kitchen Team lunch excursion in 2025 and, this time, your trusted Egyptian chef Sami Tadros has organised a visit to "Beiyrut Lebanese Restaurant" in Tuart Hill (75 Wanneroo Road). He should know what he's talking about, this is his kind of food! We will gather at the Men's Shed after finishing the cleanup from morning tea and at 11:30am proceed to the restaurant with a few 'able' drivers providing transport. Depending on the level of interest, we may need 5-6 cars to take the other members to Tuart Hill and back. Sami has negotiated an all-in price of $45 per person which includes a set menu of appetizers, starters and mixed-meat platters with oriental rice plus any soft drinks and baklava as a sweet finish. Corkage will also be covered since we will, as usual, bring a selection of wines and beers from our shed stock - Dennis, we need your ute again to ferry the cold drinks! I hope you will be able to join us for this memorable occasion during which we will celebrate our wonderful achievements over the last 6 months!  Best regards, Werner + Michael.

3D Printer Meeting
11:15 AM – 12:00 PM
Interested in 3D printing? After a successful Royal Show enterprise, the CNC/Laser Group is exploring the possibility of aquiring a 3D Printer for the Shed. We would like to hear from anyone with 3D Printer expertise who could provide input to the Group on the type of 3D Printer and software that would be appropriate for use in the Shed. To this end, the Group will be holding a meeting in the Shed meeting room on Thursday 13th of November at 11:15 am, just after the usual scones and jam and cream morning tea. See you there John Hassell Lead, CNC/Laser Group

Wellbeing - Virtual Currencies presented by Chris Douglas
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
Virtual Currencies Chris Douglas is our guest speaker on this very current topic. For his presentation to the Men’s shed, Chris has advised that he will start with the first virtual currencies namely frequent flyer programmes and later shopping rewards programmes e.g. flybys. Chris has used this approach when training detectives and it helps remove some of the mystic. By using this easily understood technique, Chris has found that once participants grasp the concept then the rest falls neatly into place.  Chris will also talk about Blockchain technology which really is driving the virtual currencies industry. Should time permit Chris may also include information about Donald Trump’s virtual currency. Should be rather interesting. So come along and be enlightened, entertained and enjoy the fellowship with your fellow Sheddies and guests.

Laser Cutter Training - November 2025
Laser Cutter - Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
09:00 AM – 10:30 AM
COURSE IS FULL The next Training Course for the Laser Cutter is coming up. The first training session will be held on Wednesday 5th November 2025 at 9am. The training will continue each week on Wedensday mornings, until all attendees are proficient enough in using the laser cutter safely and can produce some simple projects in Lightburn. In the past, members required 5-7 sessions, but it really depends on your computer literacy and willingness to learn.  I would like to keep the sessions fairly fluid, where we work together on a few simple projects. Obviously I will explain the general setup of the Laser Cutter, including the all important safety procedures. We also will go through all necessary steps to run Lightburn, the software the shed uses for the laser. Once the training course is booked, I will send out some information to all attending members, including access to a members version of Lightburn (reduced cost). This is a free training course but it is a ticketed event (only 6 spots available), so get your ticket now. Cheers Otti

Wine Group meeting - Tuesday 4th Nov
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:30 PM – 06:30 PM
Yes, it’s the same day as the Melbourne Cup, but unfortunately I don’t think the race organisers will be willing to move the event to avoid the class.  So both events will proceed as planned. The theme for the November Wine Appreciation event is “Exotic Wines” and will be jointly presented by Alex Nutter and Richard Werren. Alex and Richard have reviewed the wines we have tasted over the past few years and with the assistance of their good friend Andrew Edwards have selected 2 white and 5 red wines made from grape varieties not previously tasted by the Wine Appreciation Group. Wines to be tasted include wines from Italy, Crete, Sicily, Portugal and Croatia. In addition, there will be 2 Saperavis to taste and compare – one from Georgia (the home of the Saperavi grape) and made using the traditional Georgian method of fermenting the grapes in quevri and one from McLaren Vale using modern techniques.
