We are very pleased to announce that our guest speaker for this session is Martk Khangurie, who will be discussing the field of Radiology Makhan Singh (Mark) Khangure in an Indian-born radiologist and a pioneer in the field of neuroradiology. He trained in the United Kingdom and Australia, and has been based in Perth, Western Australia, since the 1970s. Khangure was born in India and moved to England at nine years old.[1] He received an MBBS in 1971 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and achieved Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1974. He began training in radiology in Newcastle in 1975, and continued his radiology training after migrating to Australia in 1976 at Royal Perth Hospital, receiving Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists in 1980. From 1982, he was a consultant radiologist at Royal Perth Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals, where he held various roles including Director of MRI and Director of Interventional Neuroradiology.[2] He resigned from Royal Perth Hospital in 2006.[3] He has been a consultant radiologist at SKG Radiology in Perth since 2007.[2] Khangure is regarded as a pioneer of neuroradiology in Australia.[1][4] In the mid-1990s, he performed some of the earliest endovascular coiling procedures, a technique for treating bleeding brain aneurysms without surgery, and conducted clinical trials at Royal Perth Hospital.[4] He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2017.[1] This should prove to be a facinating talk from a pioneer in his field so please register with a free ticket and come along and be informed. This month - 70's dinner party ! For the June monthly lunch Greg Knight will lead the Kitchen Team in preparing the classic 70's dinner party dish beef stroganoff. Michael Henderson and the team will reprise apple crumble and vanilla ice cream for dessert (not to be missed). So sign up, come along and enjoy a meal with your mates ! Cost for food will be $20 with beer and wine at standard prices.   As usual, we need pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 24 hours before the event. To maintain your Blue Dot Woodworking Accreditation you will need to, you will need to undertake a Verification of Competency (VOC) Assessment as follows. Woodworking members aged under 75 years will be assessed every 24 months Woodworking members aged 75 to 84 years will be assessed every 18 months Woodworking members older than 85 years  will be assessed every 12 months You will be assigned a simple task which shouldn’t take more than about 30 minutes. This is not a test of your craftsmanship; it is simply a demonstration that you can competently use the machinery unsupervised without endangering yourself or others.  You can book your VOC Assessment by clicking on your preferred VOC Assessment date below. The Rostered Supervisor for the day will oversee your assessment and he will either deem you "competent" or refer you to a Trainer for further assessment or training. If you choose not to do the VOC Assessment,  you will no longer be able to use the Machine Room equipment unsupervised.

The June wine event heralds the return to one of our favourite themes - sampling Shiraz.  The duet of Chris Porter and Michael Somerville-Brown are returning by popular demand (minus Chris who will be in down South on holiday).  But before Chris departed, they pulled together an excellent range of wines (with the help of Steff at the Re Store) to demonstrate the impact climate has on the characteristics of wine made from the same grape variety.   So its up to us to show we are getting warmer rather than colder is telling the difference. There are sure to be some challenging moments as they will also be incorporating a quiz to ensure you all pay attention. As usual there will be 20 places at $25, so get in early to reserve a spot.  

Our Kitchen Team will run an 'Artisan Bread' (sourdough) baking workshop over 2 days (Tuesday arvo and Wednesday morning). You will be able to smell and sample the 'spoils' of this effort if you visit the SCMS Kitchen on Wednesday at lunchtime.

All Members who intend to be part of the Woodworking Group will need to complete this Power Tools Induction Training. There is a once off Cost of $10 for this Training Course, which can be paid when you purchase a ticket. Note: Members are required to complete the 'Yellow Dot' Shed Introduction session before taking part in a Red Dot training session. There will be a maximum of 3 persons for each Training Session.  If after booking, for some reason you cannot attend the training, please advise the Red Dot coordinator, Jeremy Wallace, on 0406927650 (SMS please), or email (jeremywallace5@outlook.com) as soon as possible, so we can arrange another session for you.  If you have trouble booking please contact Jeremy by SMS. The successful completion of the Red Dot Training is a pre-requisite to booking the Blue Dot Woodwork Machinery Course. Once you have completed this Training, your Membership Badge will updated to show a Red Dot and enable you to undertake any projects in the Main Workshop that utilise only Power Tools. 

Woodworking Machinery Induction (Blue Dot) – Phases 1 & 2 All Members who wish to use the woodworking machinery in the Machine Room will need to complete Phase 1 & Phase 2 of the Woodworking Machinery Induction Training. Please Note that Members must have completed the Red Dot course before enrolling in this Blue Dot course? This Course will be conducted in two Phases over two consecutive weeks (9am - 12pm) so you must be able to commit to both sessions before purchasing a ticket. Each Phase will be approximately a three hour duration. There will be a maximum of 3 persons for each Session. The Cost of this course (for both Phases) is $20.  If after booking, for some reason you cannot attend the training, please advise Michael Cahill on 0459062090 as soon as possible, so we can arrange another session for you.  If you cancel or are a “no show” on the day you will lose your $20 fee so please, only book if you can commit to the two consecutive weeks. Adventure Awaits: Wildflowers, Salt Lakes, Birds, Rugged Terrain, Historic Ruins, Cemeteries and Astrophotography Hi Guys The plan is for us to travel south on Monday 25th August 2025 and return to Perth on Friday 29th August 2025, staying away for 4 nights.  We plan to touch on all the recent workshops and provide members the opportunity to practice taking photos of natural and historic landscapes, wildflowers, birds, wildlife and astrophotography.   john Bolto has prepared an exciting program for the five days. See John or myself for further details. Accommodation As discussed at recent Workshops we have provisionally booked accommodation in the Perenjori Caravan Park for 14 members to stay 4 nights from Monday 25th August to Friday 29th August 2025. The accommodation proposed is centrally located in the Midwest Region for our proposed photo shoots and offers each member a separate bedroom.  The Caravan Park also has several powered caravan bays available if members wish to bring a caravan or camper.  The Caravan Park also has an outdoor cooking and barbeque area which would be ideal for our some of evening meals.  We plan to go to the local Perenjori Hotel for the T-Bone Steak Special on Tuesday evening. The accommodation options are: 2 bedroom house with kitchen & shared bathroom – daily rate is $111/person for a total of $444 for 4 nights. 1 bedroom Cabins with ensuite (12 off) - daily rate is $111/person for a total of $444 for 4 nights. Powered Caravan Sites (BYO Caravan) – several available at $24/night for a total of $96 for 4 nights. Food Arrangements The food arrangements are as follows: Members contribute to a food budget at $75/person to cover the BBQ steak, sausages, onions, sauces, etc; 4 breakfasts; snacks; and a couple of cartons of beer. Breakfast to include eggs, bacon cereal, milk, bread, tea, coffee, etc for 4 mornings. Lunch is usually a sandwich or roll bought by members before we head out for the day at a local café or deli and eaten during the day trip. Dinner meals are as follows: Monday: Curry Night – 3 curries and 3 salads Tuesday: T Bone Steak Special, $25pp at Perenjori Hotel Wednesday: Italian Night – 3 Pasta dishes and 3 salads Thursday: BBQ  – steak, sausages, baked potatoes (food budget); salads Essentially each person attending the trip agrees to bring an evening meal contribution to be agreed once we confirm all attendees for the Trip.   Transport We propose to organise to share travel and fuel costs across 5 vehicles (excluding campers). Trip Deposit In order to secure your place on the trip and secure your accommodation we request that members pay a $75 deposit (including a TidyHQ admin fee of 4.367%) and select Ticket 1 OR Ticket 2 as follows: Ticket 1: Confirm Accommodation booking and pay $75 deposit OR Ticket 2: Confirm a Powered camping site book and pay $75 deposit To secure your place on the Trip, Photography members must purchase their ticket by 5pm Wednesday 11 June 2025.  Otherwise, our bookings will lapse.
