Wellbeing Group - the future of energy in Australia
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:00 PM – 05:30 PM
There is a lot of talk about energy at the moment. Different colours of Hydrogen, renewable energy and its opportunities and challenges, and more recently the re-emergence of Nuclear as an option previously discarded by the Australian people and governments. Isaac Hinton is the Head of Australia at InterContinental Energy, a developer and investor in large scale renewable energy and green hydrogen.  He oversees the company’s Australian activities and partnerships to support the long-term growth strategy and project implementation.  This currently includes serving as Chair for the consortia developing the Western Green Energy Hub and the Australian Renewable Energy Hub, two of the largest proposed Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen Projects in the World.   Isaac proposes to take the Men’s Shed goup through the benefits and challenges facing not just Australia, but the world in transitioning away from fossil fuels. He will go through the colours of Hydrogen and what they mean, why finding a renewable source of Hydrogen is so important and often talked about and provide some thoughts on nuclear energy for Australia and the facts and realities we need to be thinking about. Isaac has nearly 20 years of experience in the energy and resources industries.  Previously, he worked at BHP for more than 10 years in various global leadership roles in sales, marketing, procurement, and was Chief of Staff to the President Australia.   Isaac holds a Master of Commerce in Applied Finance and a Bachelor of Business Economics and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Bicycle Count November 10th
09:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Dear Sheddies The Wellness Group would like to invite you to volunteer for the upcoming Bicycle Network Super Sunday Bike Count. The bike count will take place on November 10th, 2024, from 09:00 – 12:00. Our participation in the count is being undertaken on behalf of the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, which has been coordinating these bike counts twice a year for several years. We are calling for early registration of volunteer counters so that we can coordinate with Bicycle Network for a large number of sites and hence maximise the funds raised for charity. Due to our long-standing participation in the Bicycle Counts, Bicycle Network has granted us first opportunity to man as many sites as we can field volunteers. This early access opportunity will enable us to pick as many sites as are available which are close to the areas around the Showgrounds or in the Western Suburbs. You should be aware however, since the participating Councils (and not all Council participate) are spread throughout the metro area, some sites will obviously be a bit further away and not necessarily in a “preferred” location. We have secured sites covering from Perth City through to Fremantle. Our Shed has previously participated in these Bicycle Network bike counts and assisted the Rotary Club of Dalkeith with their fund-raising endeavours. Combined with the Rotary Club of Dalkeith, we hope to field 50 or more volunteers for this easy volunteering opportunity. The Rotary Club of Dalkeith was instrumental in the formation, construction, and funding of our great Shed. The easiest way to record your interest in being a volunteer counter is to purchase a free ticket to the event we have created. This way we can record the participants and coordinate the sites accordingly. From the Bicycle Network’s own websites, the following explanation provides details of why the counts are undertaken. “As the weather warms up and becomes more enjoyable for riding and walking, Bicycle Network Super Sunday volunteers will be ready and waiting to tally the numbers as we move closer to summer. Super Sunday counts take place each November and record information about weekend users of off-road paths. This includes bike riders, walkers, runners, e-scooter riders and dog walkers to paint a picture of recreational trail use. Councils from around the country are preparing for this year’s Super Sunday count on 10 November. The data collected informs councils on how their paths and trails are being used and what improvements can be made. This informs their planning and active transport policies with the goal of developing infrastructure that encourages physical activity and sustainable ways for Australians to get around.” Please consult your diaries, and if you wish to participate then please purchase a” Ticket” to record your interest. We will contact you personally once you have registered your interest to firm up your participation. Whilst the actual count time is for 3 hours, if we get sufficient numbers of volunteers, we can look to share sites so that you will only have to contribute 1.5 hours of your time. Thanking you for hopefully positively responding to this volunteering request. If you would like further details, please respond to Peter Panek directly via email at ppanek@merit-group.com.au Best regards Peter Panek On behalf of the Wellness Group and the Rotary Club of Dalkeith

Our Host this month is Graeme Owens.  The theme is a bit of an enigma with with the only hint being: "Graeme Owens will be asking us the question "We know we can walk and talk at the same time but can we drink and think at the same time?" Graeme will have a mixed array of Australian wines for us to try." And Yes we know its Melbourne Cup day but have chosen to proceed in any case as there are sure to be a good number with staying power.  If the attendance is too low we will cancel the event so please get in early so we can plan with certainty.
