Woodworking members aged under 75 years will be assessed every 24 months Woodworking members aged 75 to 84 years will be assessed every 18 months Woodworking members older than 85 years  will be assessed every 12 months You will be assigned a simple task which shouldn’t take more than about 30 minutes. This is not a test of your craftsmanship; it is simply a demonstration that you can competently use the machinery unsupervised without endangering yourself or others.  You can book your VOC Assessment by clicking on your preferred VOC Assessment date below. The Rostered Supervisor for the day will oversee your assessment and he will either deem you "competent" or refer you to a Trainer for further assessment or training. Monthly lunch = 1970s Dinner Party.
12:30 PM – 02:30 PM
Many of you will remember this menu from dinner parties you had with your friends in the 1970s.  Boeuf Bourguignon served with mashed spuds and tender peas (not the traditional bullets from a can).  The main will be followed by a good ol’ Aussie  Rice Pudding.  The indefatigable members of the Kitchen team will put this meal together under the watchful eye of Vice President and standing-in Kitchen Group leader - Bill MacLeod (sorry). All of this can be yours for a mere $18.  The usual T&Cs apply, you can cancel your reservation at this lunch if you give us more than 24 hours notice and you can carry forward your credit to another event.  No-shows get no credit.  Best Aussie wine (Coolabah casks!) and beer will be on sale from our bar at the usual very reasonable prices.  However, the Shed management asks that members diverge from the 1970s practice by drinking in moderation.

Photo Group Field Trip - Lake Leschenaultia
Lake Leschenaultia
09:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Lake Leschenaultia Field Trip   Preamble : This is the simplist astro shot you can take so if you want to learn this is definately your best starting point. For those that are more experienced we will pray for a calm night so we can get the milky way reflected off of the lake. We can car pool for those who don't want to drive themselves, just select the ticket for car pool as opposed to driver and we will sort out who goes with who. Topic : Vertical Milky Way Photograph Location : Chidlow in the Perth Hills Travel time from Claremont : 1hr 10 mins approx Best time to take photographs : 10.30pm, but the Milky Way Galactic Centre rises at 9.30 and can be photographed from that time till late into the night as there is no moon on Monday evening. Where to meet onsite : park in the carpark on the west side of the lake. If the gate is shut then park at the visitor centre and walk around, its only about a 5 minute walk across the dam. We will be taking our photographs from near the beach on the western side of the lake. I suggest you depart Perth to arrive at site by about 9.15pm (so about 8pm depart). This will give you time to set up prior to the best photographs being available. You should be home before midnight. What to bring : Camera, tripod, head lamp and wide angle fast lens. This will be a single exposure portrait shot so nodal rails are optional. There is a panorama shot available but its not essential to take a panorama to get a good shot of a vertical milky way. You will also need warm clothes, something to eat and drink and a chair to relax in whilst you wait for the your shots. Camera Settings : Refer previously distributed presentation for more details.   Please ensure you set up your camera before you leave home as its much easier than doing it on the fly in the field.   • Exposure – 2 x NPF Accurate but always less than 500 rule, somewhere between 10 and 30 secs depending on your combo. (use app to look up for your camera and lens combination) • Aperture – 0.5 to 1 stop above minimum • ISO – 1600 to 3200 • White Balance – 3200K to 3400K • IBIS – turn off!! • Remote Trigger - enable or use delayed release (2 sec) • Focus - manual (minimise size of stars or use hyperfocal length for foreground focus and acceptable star focus)   We will do a processing workshop during April so you can get a proffessional finish for this photo, more news later on this.

20240402 Wine Appreciation Group Meeting
04:30 PM – 06:30 PM
Its Easter and school holidays and this seems to have impacted our numbers as we have quite a few places remaining.  Maybe its that noone wants to relive the 80s.  But we have places available so dont hesitate and if you want to bring a friend please do so. What of significance happened in the 1980's?   The graphic above gives you a hint.  Forget the Internet, Aids and Chernobyl.  The main event was obviously the introduction of Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay with all its buttery notes.  So this month Richard Hinde is going to treat us to a trip down memory lane and on along the way show us a little about the way chardonnay has changed since its glory days during the 1908's to suit the evolving the Australian palate.  This event is immediately after Easter.  As usual please purchase your ticket and do so quickly ior you may miss out.
