SCMS Kitchen Team Lunch - Ma Kin, Crawley
Ma Kin — Thai Street Eats
12:00 PM – 02:00 PM
Our end-of-year Kitchen Team lunch will take us to renowned Thai Streetfood Eatery "Ma Kin" in Crawley, just off Stirling Hwy. The food is typical of authentic Thai home-cooked meals and we will be able to sample a range of starters and main courses, some of which will be spicy! If you are still hungry, there is also a limited range of desserts available. We will bring our own drinks, as usual. Please book a free ticket to help us gauge numbers for this event. For those who need transport, we will leave from the Men's Shed around 11:45am to drive to the restaurant. Please let us know if you want to catch a ride from the Shed. I hope you can join Michael and myself for a celebration of our Team achievements in 2024. Best regards, Werner.

Early detection and treatment of Skin Cancer Presentation by Dr Andrew Duthie It is that time of year again when we should be thinking about protecting our skin and getting a checkup if you haven’t had one recently. Dr Andrew Duthie will guide us through what we should be doing and watch out for. He set up the Skin Cancer Clinic in Bayview Terrace  Claremont in 2023. Andrew has a wicked sense of humour and I am sure that his talk will be very entertaining. He was brought up in the NT and has completed his 5 year fellowship in Skin Cancer Medicine. His father runs the Darwin Skin Care Clinic and he trained under him. Several sheddies have had extremely beneficial experiences from past skin cancer health checks and it is important that we all be better informed about this aspect of our lives and better health outcomes. how many people die in australia from skin cancers In Australia, skin cancer is a significant health concern. According to the latest data, approximately 1,455 people die from melanoma (a serious type of skin cancer) each year. Additionally, non-melanoma skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) also contribute to the mortality rate, with around 765 deaths annually. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Australia, and it's estimated that at least two in three Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer during their lifetime. Drinks and nibbles will be available during this talk and you are encouraged to remain behind after the talk fro some further classic Men's Shed friendship. Remember, the Wellness Group provides two talks per month which happen on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month so why not block this time out in your calendars so you don't miss an event, which coulld be life changing.
