SCMS Cooking Class March 2026
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
09:00 AM – 02:00 PM
Hello Cooking Class Sheddies Our next cooking class falls on St. Patrick's day. What better excuse for some Irish food and a drop of Guiness if you wish. I hope you will join me for the next class on Tuesday 17 March at 9am. We will eat what we cook and lunch will be at about 12.30pm. We will have a guest cook Chris Black (who has strong Irish roots) who will help us make pork steak with an apple cider and mustard sauce. This will be served with creamy mashed potatoes (of course) and vegetables.  I will introduce the dessert which will be spiced apple cake with lashings of warm custard.  So, as you see, apples are the ingredient of the day ! A fixed cost of $25 per person will apply to each class to cover ingredients. Beer and wine will be available for purchase on the day. Please purchase your ticket in advance. As always, I look forward to seeing you on the day. All the best Michael Henderson

Introduction to CNC Routing
09:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Do you want to learn how to design cnc projects and cut them on the cnc router? John Hassell will be running a two part introductory course for those interested in CNC routing. This course will give you some insight into cnc routing in woodworking projects. The course will be run over two consecutive Saturday morning sessionsfrom 9:00 am to noon in the Shed Meeting Room. The first Saturday session on the 14th March  will be an introduction to VCarve Pro, the CAD software used to design cnc projects. The second Saturday session on the 21st March will be a practical session on the cnc  router. In the first session we will work through a simple design project in VCarve Pro step by step, and in the second session we will look at how to set up and machine a project on the cnc machine. To participate in this course you will need:- 1. Reasonable computer literacy. 2. A Windows laptop computer with a mouse to bring to the sessions. 3. A functioning copy of VCarve Pro Trial Edition installed on your laptop. This can be downloaded at:- https://www.vectric.com/free-trial/  You want VCarve Pro, not Desktop. Download as a guest. Sorry, VCarve Pro will not run on an Apple computer. 3. When you install the software it will ask you what cnc machine you are using. The Shed has a Pro V6 AR6 manufactured by Axiom. The course is free, but you will need to take a ticket as we limit numbers to the first 10 persons. See you there. John Hassell CNC Router and Laser Group
