SCMS Xmas Luncheon 2023
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
12:00 PM – 02:00 PM
Ho, Ho, Ho! Yet another festive season is quickly approaching and we are planning to stage the culinary highlight of the SCMS year - a sumptious "SCMS Christmas Luncheon" with food and drinks to die for! Led by our trusted Chef Bill Macleod, your intrepid Kitchen Team will tirelessly work around the clock to deliver a smorgasboard of cooked prawns, Shed-honey glazed ham and some healthy salad options with a sweet finish in the form of one of Bill's finest desserts - it's a secret but you will love it! We ask you to arrive by 12pm and settle in with your favourite drink in the "Great Mess Hall" before the food banquet will be opened fomally at 12:30pm. People arriving late will risk of missing out on some of the delights, so please be on time! Cost for food will be a $20 with beer and wine at standard prices.  As usual, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 1 day before this luncheon. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. Despite there being a higher ticket allocation, please register early to avoid the disappointment of missing this happy occasion as the hall capacity is strictly limited.  We hope you will be able to join us! Werner & the Kitchen Team.

Shed morning tea 28 November 2023
Typika Artisan Roasters
10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
During the Shed lockout next week, we will all be missing our regular morning tea sessions when we take a break to solve the problems of the day and even those of the world. We have therefore arranged for morning tea/coffee at Typika on Tuesday 28 November at 10.30am.  It has aircon and is just off Stirling Highway, behind Claremont Quarter.  We are informed by none other than our Shed coffee connoiseur, Curt, that the coffee is good and there is lots of space for our members. There is plenty of free parking at Typika or at Claremont Quarter. The Shed will cover the cost of a free coffee or tea for each member who comes along.  Any edibles will be for the member's own cost. Please register below for this free event so that we can give Typika an indication of numbers in advance. We hope to see everyone there. Kind regards Stewart.

Honey Extraction November 17th 1pm
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
01:00 PM – 04:00 PM
Our bees have been very busy and filled most of the supers in our apriary.  We therefore need to carry out another Honey extraction.  We propose it takes place next Friday 17th November, starting at 1300.  Like last time we will look to finish about 1600 and celebrate with cold beer and maybe even some warm bread and fresh honey. We plan to have two decapping stations so we can push things along.  We should also bottle some or our previously harvested honey so if we get enough workers we will also set up a bottling line. Please indicate your availability by getting a ticket - free of course.  A hour or two is better than none.    Stephen

Beer n Bullshit Sundowner - The History of the Swan River as derived from Postcards
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
Due to the absence of our President which delayed normal proceedings, our very next Beer and Bullshit event is on Wednesday 8th November. The presenter for this meeting has been put forward by our member Allan Wall and is Mr John Dawson who is a local historian.  John Dowson’s latest book, Swan River Postcards, is a journey from Fremantle to Guildford in Western Australia, along one of the best preserved rivers in Australia, using old postcards to tell fascinating stories of the river’s history. The world was scoured for interesting and rare postcards. The wooden bridges of Fremantle saved the river from destruction as large boats have never been able to get past them. The river  has always been heavily used and treasured. Swimming baths were very popular and most Western Australians until recent decades learnt to swim in the river. John Dowson is an award winning author with 10 books published - mainly on the history of Western Australia. Signed copies of the book will be available at the talk for a special price ($24.95 each or two for $30). As per usual, folowing the talk, there will be loads of time for questions, fellowship and the opportunity to socialise with your fellow Sheddies. So come along, be educated, inquisitive, engaged and be social by enjoying the company of your fellow Sheddies at this Sundowner. Looking forward to catching up with all of my beer and Bullshit mates. Best regards Peter Panek President
