Monday Morning Walking Group
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
09:30 AM – 10:30 AM
We all know that walking a great exercise and exercise is the best strategy to stay healthy and able to do all the things you really enjoy doing (like drinking wine and eating food).  But doing it by yourself is not always easy or fun. The Health and Wellbeing Committee invite all memebers to come and join in a relaxed walk around the showgrounds and/or surrounding area.  It will be an opportunity to get your "steps" in for the day, meet other members and then enjoy morning tea back at the shed. The aim is to make this a regular weekly event. Depending on interest we may look at other days but we thought getting your exercise for the week on track is a good idea.

Beer n Bullshit Sundowner - Net Zero Presented by Dr Jaap Poll
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
Hi Sheddies, Whilst we advertised our next B&B session would be on the Pyramids, unfortunately our planned guest speaker, Michael Wilson, will be wandering off on a highly sought after fishing holiday next week and so his talk will have to be held over until another date. We wish Michael every success on his trip as we fully understand the need to go fishing when you can. This is a Men's Shed after all. We have however been very fortunate to be able to secure one of our other sheddies, Dr Jaap Poll to step forward and fill the role as guest speaker. A brief synopsis of Jaap's talk follows.    “Net Zero - what does it mean and can it - and should it - be done by 2050 - or at all?”    Governments of the free world are obsessed by "Net Zero" (whatever that means). They are led to believe that the “Science is Settled” and supported by 97% of Scientists. They have convinced themselves that the electorate wants “net zero emissions" to save the world from an “ecological catastrophe”. It is blindly assumed that we can stabilise climate, including Global temperature, by just becoming carbon neutral (whatever that means) - in the process Men can achieve something mother nature has never strived for, let alone managed - (and we learn to play God in the process).   In this presentation, one of our founding Shed Members Jaap Poll will discuss the findings he and fellow Geoscientist and Shed member Michael Wilson have been discussing with scientists all over the world - on climate change, the benefits of CO2 and recently about the Net Zero obsession.    Jaap will use selected slides to illustrate current thinking   So come along, be educated, inquisitive, engaged and be social by enjoying the company of your fellow Sheddies and partners at this Sundowner. Refeshmentsw and the usual nibbles will be available as usual. Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you all at what should be a very interesting and lively talk. Best regards Peter Panek

SCMS Luncheon - 9th July 2024
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
12:30 PM – 02:00 PM
For this month's SCMS Members Luncheon, we have selected a special menu prepared by a special new Chef. Our recently returned member, Ron Feruglio has agreed to share some of his favourite food recipes and he will take us to Mexico and cook up a storm for our "Xmas in July" (Felize Novidad en Julio) event: "Carne guisada (Mexican beef stew)" with "Arroz rojo (Red rice)" and "Frijolas refritos (Refried beans)" are some of Mexicos national dishes. For dessert, we will be able to sample a Mexican Classic of "Tres-leches Cake" with some vanilla icecream. If you come dressed with a "sombrero", we will shout a shot of Tequila for you and set-off some Mexican fireworks! Cost for food will be $20 with beer and wine at standard prices.   To help us gauge demand, we require pre-payment with your registration.  You will be able to get a credit towards a future event if you cancel at least 24 hours before the event, Should you need to cancel, please send an email to wernerribul@mac.com. No-shows on the day will forfeit their ticket fee. We hope you will be able to join us. Best regards, Werner

Wine Appreciation Group - 2nd July Meeting
Claremont Showground
04:30 PM – 06:30 PM
As the picture shows, the theme for Tuesday's Wine Appreciation meeting is yet to be determined.  But fear not, our Leader has returned from his world travels, so as a minimum Stephen will regale us with tall tales of all the great wines he drank.  If this isn’t enough to justify the ticket price on its own, then we’ll also provide a selection of wines with a theme, nibbles and general bon amie. Based on recent feedback from members, we are going to limit the maximum event size to 16 people – so book early to avoid disappointment.
