Beer n Bullshit Sundowner - The History of the Swan River as derived from Postcards
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
Due to the absence of our President which delayed normal proceedings, our very next Beer and Bullshit event is on Wednesday 8th November. The presenter for this meeting has been put forward by our member Allan Wall and is Mr John Dawson who is a local historian.  John Dowson’s latest book, Swan River Postcards, is a journey from Fremantle to Guildford in Western Australia, along one of the best preserved rivers in Australia, using old postcards to tell fascinating stories of the river’s history. The world was scoured for interesting and rare postcards. The wooden bridges of Fremantle saved the river from destruction as large boats have never been able to get past them. The river  has always been heavily used and treasured. Swimming baths were very popular and most Western Australians until recent decades learnt to swim in the river. John Dowson is an award winning author with 10 books published - mainly on the history of Western Australia. Signed copies of the book will be available at the talk for a special price ($24.95 each or two for $30). As per usual, folowing the talk, there will be loads of time for questions, fellowship and the opportunity to socialise with your fellow Sheddies. So come along, be educated, inquisitive, engaged and be social by enjoying the company of your fellow Sheddies at this Sundowner. Looking forward to catching up with all of my beer and Bullshit mates. Best regards Peter Panek President

November 6th Wine Appreciation Group Monthly Meeting - Campania
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:30 PM – 06:30 PM
NOTE THE NOVEMBER MEETING IS BEING HELD ONE DAY EARLier (MONDAY) SO WE DONT CONFLICT WITH THE MELBOURNE CUP. John Bolto wil be hosting the November Meeting,  As set out below we will experience a fascinating treat of varieties and flavours from Italy Campania is probably best know for  Naples (maybe infamously known), the Amalfi Coast and Pompei. It is not so well known for its wines. However, two of the oldest cultivated grape varieties globally, Greco and Aglianico, came to Campania almost 3,000 years ago from Greece and have been cultivated there ever since. Campania has a thriving new wine sector with entrepreneurs and families having reinvigorated an old and stale wine sector starting in the early 2000s. It is also home to the largest wine cooperative in Italy. We will sample 8 wines, 4 different grape varieties with 3 DOCG wines, 2 DOC wines, some local examples and a surprise wine which may just be the best of the evening. The wines will be accompanied by antipasto typical to Campania. All of this within Stephen’s tight budget, so Campania wines are economical when compared to their more well known cousins in the north of Italy. Come and have some fun with new wines whilst I introduce you to a part of Italy that few visit, the back blocks of Campania. Please buy your tickets asap to reserve yourself a place.
