Photography Group - Pinnacles Milky Way Field Trip
07-10-2023 05:00 PM – 11-10-2023 05:00 PM
As mentioned in previous meetings we are planning a field trip for Sunday 15th October to the Pinnacles to shoot the Milky Way low in the western sky. We are nearing the end of the Milky Way season so this is one of the last occasions to get in some Milky Way practise. The plan is to leave Perth mid-afternoon and go to the RAC Cervantes Caravan Park. We plan to stay here overnight on Sunday night in a villa as we will not finish shooting till after 10pm and then have a 2+ hour drive back to Perth if we don’t stay overnight. Those that don’t want to stay the night are free to head back to Perth earlier if they want to. We will drop our gear at the caravan park and then head out to the Nambung National Park, a 10 minute drive away, to set up for the evening. We will take dinner with us and eat it whilst we wait for the stars to come out. Might even have a beer or a glass of wine as well. During the field trip we should be able to practise the following shots. Sunset shot of pinnacles in golden hours (6-6.45pm). From 6-7pm we will have a small moon in the west so this will add interest to the shots. Sunset panorama in Golden hours. Foreground shots during blue hour (6.45pm to 7.30pm). Foreground panorama during blue hour. Milky Way shots after Astronomical twilight is complete (after 8pm). In reality this will more likely be between 9-10pm as the Milky Way gets lower in the western sky. Milky Way panorama. Those that have caravans/campers are welcome to bring them along and stay at the caravan park. Please get a ticket if you want to join this field trip ASAP but not later than 5pm 11 Oct 2023. We can organize car pooling once we know how many people are attending. If you have any queries then give John Bolto a call on 0419 924 350. JB

3rd October 2023 Wine Appreciation Group Meeting
Showgrounds Community Men's Shed
04:30 PM – 06:30 PM
Gents, The frenetic events of the Show will be behind us so its time to relax and have a guest presenter tell us about their wine choices.  We all face the dilemma everytime we go into a wine shop seeking something different as to what wine to choose.  This Month an expert from Grand Cru (our local shop where we enjoy a 20% discount) will be introducing us to an Australian wine selection which they think satisfies the dual objectives of quality and value for money.  Hopefully we will all be treated to something new.  By the way, they know what we have already tried and promised no repeats. It will be like a normal night so Grand Cru will get some valuable feedback on theier choices.  If you really enjoy any of the wines you will be able to put in an order at a very good price.  BUT no pressure, we dont have to buy anything. Depending on the level of interest we may open the doors to up to 30 people (& guests).  To do this we will need to know numbers as soon as possible to ensure everyone gets to try all the wines.  Please buy your ticket(s) timeously.  We look forward to seeing you    Stephen & Chris

Health and Wellbeing Skin Check
01:00 PM – 03:00 PM
Now that the Perth Royal Show  is over it is time to attend to other important matters. I am arranging skin checks for members of the Men's Shed funded by a grant from Men'S Shed Australia. With increasing intensity of the sun and UV light at this time of year it is appropriate to think of taking care of our skin. If you haven't had a skin check this year I would encourage you to do so. All you have to do at the moment is to reply to this email by registering for the event and I will allocatea date and time in the next few weeks. I have arranged for a "Skin Doctor" to come to the shed to check your skin. It will take about 10 minutes and will be done in the Photography Room. First in best (un)dressed!! Michael Hart

Beer & Bullshit Sundowner - Oil Field Development
04:00 PM – 06:00 PM
Coming in rapid succession is our next Beer and Bullshit event on Wednesday 6th September. Using the expertise of our own shed members, this event will host our very own Sheddie, Simon Benwell Simply put, Simon says " The title is ‘My life in oil and gas development’. I’ll touch on my 40 yr career and use examples to address the question , “ok, we’ve found some oil and gas, now what do we do with it?” It might sound a bit dry but it will be a lot of fun… Trust me 😊 Regards, Simon B" If you don't like his talk, Simon will guarantee a refund of the cost of the ticket. Please Note that your Shed President, who normally sets up and runs these events, will be away and consequently we need a volunteer to run the bar and take payments. If you can step in on this occassion, please contact Peter Panek or Simon Benwell and advise of your availability to perform this function on the night. Without a barman it makes the Beer part of the event null and void. As per usual, folowing the talk, there will be loads of time for questions, fellowship and the opportunity to socialise with your fellow Sheddies. So come along, be educated, inquisitive, engaged and be social by enjoying the company of your fellow Sheddies at this Sundowner. Best regards Peter Panek President
